Degree Audit and Award Coordinator
The George Mason University Office of the University Registrar invites applications for a Degree Audit and Award Coordinator vacancies. The Office of the University Registrar actively supports and leads change while serving as a strategic partner to those the office serves, focusing on the ways to become more efficient, effective, and improving services to university constituents in meeting the needs of an evolving higher educational environment.
Responsibilities: This position is one of four degree audit encoders for the university responsible for building and maintaining accurate degree evaluations. The position also requires performing automated and manual degree compliance reviews. The essence of the position is to accurately review students for graduation, to automate degree requirement checking for university academic programs, and to provide excellent customer service to the campus community. * Process complex academic records transactions that will have a special effect on the degree audit. This includes substitutions/waivers and student area adjustments in both CAPP and DegreeWorks; * Build undergraduate degree audits consistent with degree requirements specified in the University Catalog using Scribe, the programming language for DegreeWorks; * Serve as problem-solver for degree audit problems as they occur; document all work in the project management database program; work with the Assistant Registrar for Degree Compliance, Degree Audit Analyst, and the Registrarâ€™s information technology staff to identify and resolve technical issues that affect DegreeWorks and test new programs and changes made by other degree auditors; * Post degrees. In addition, resolve issues impacting graduation for students in their last semester running reports of students who do not pass their degree evaluation and contacting and working with the department advisor, chair and/or the student; * Develop and maintain a highly detailed level of knowledge regarding all academic programs at the university. In particular, maintain expertise on the requirements students must fulfill to graduate and the university and college academic policies which affect those requirements; * Provide high-quality customer service in all aspects of the position in spite of an often difficult and aggressive student and faculty clientele; * Stay within your role, which does not include providing academic advisement to students; * Promptly return calls/e-mails to department representatives who seek your advice; * As necessary, meet with students who visit the Registrarâ€™s Office; and * Assist with cross-functional support inside the Registrarâ€™s Office.
Required Qualifications: Bachelorâ€™s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, demonstrated customer service experience, employ logic to solve complex problems, have deep understanding of how various kinds of requirements work together to create academic programs, have facility with student information systems and Microsoft Office, able to work successfully despite numerous interruptions and a hectic pace, and be good at and enjoy solving puzzles both independently and with a group.
Preferred Qualifications: Strongly prefer experience with academic programs and their requirements, and with work or other experience which requires logic in dealing with complexity.
