The Authority is seeking a highly motivated Water Services Worker Leader/CDL.The Water Services Worker Leader is responsible for leading a crew that is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the water supply system. Major activities include extensive repair, maintenance, operation, and installation of mains, service lines, taps, valves, hydrants, and other related appurtenances. Responsible to the Foreman for assuring that the work assignments of the crew are carried out. Personally performs the work of the crew.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:A cents € cents Passing on to other workers the instructions received from the Foreman. Works along with other crew members and sets the pace. Demonstrates proper work methods. Sees to it that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Obtains needed information or decisions from the Foreman on problems that come up during the work. Sees to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy. Checks work while in progress and when finished to see whether the ForemanA cents € (TM) s instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed. Reports to the Foreman on status and progress of work, and causes of work delays. A cents € cents Performs the full range of complex manual tasks, as directed by the Foreman or Water Services Worker Leader, to support the general maintenance, repair, and replacement activities of the water distribution system.A cents € cents Performs the full scope of preventative maintenance and emergency repair and replacement of mains, service lines, taps, valves, and hydrants.A cents € cents Performs emergency and scheduled water main shutoffs. Serves repair notices to consumers. Plans and executes shutoffs including establishment of time of shutoff with all consumers to assure that work proceeds as scheduled. Determines valves necessary to isolate mains and closes them as rapidly as possible without damaging the valves or main. Performs turn-on and turn-off in response to non-payment.A cents € cents Establishes work zone safety perimeter which includes but is ot limited to erecting barricades, lighting system and warning devices prior to excavation and performs repair/maintenance activities, proper set up of traffic control devices. Coordinates the marking of utility lines and ensures that markings are completed before the start of excavation work.A cents € cents Refers to plats, maps and computer GIS map systems to determine location of water mains. Installs copper service lines-from the tap to the property line. Adjusts frames, covers, meter housings, curb boxes or other appurtenances to grade. Replaces valves, curb cocks, water service pipes that are damaged or obstructed. Replaces meter connections if obstructed, damaged or corroded. Repairs service pipes and connection leaks. A cents € cents Inspects repaired mains or newly constructed mains for adequacy before changing/recharging. Inspects water valves and vaults prior to street repaving; makes necessary repairs or recommends replacement by others to assure that new roadways will not have to be opened or excavated. Makes post repaving inspections. Responds to muddy and discolored water complaints. Solves these complaints by flushing mains through blow-off valves and fire hydrants. A cents € cents Operates the AuthorityA cents € (TM) s fixtures to facilitate pressure tests, flushing, disinfection tests, main and services activation, charging and draining of mains, cross-connection inspections, flow tests, and other systems related activities.A cents € cents Cleans and restores worksites after jobs are completed to ensure that the work area is left in neat, safe, and acceptable condition.A cents € cents Directs traffic control, arranges safety barriers and safety signals, and erects barricades and warning devices.A cents € cents Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations, including the construction and assembly of shoring devices in excavations and utilization of standard and job-specific safety equipment which includes but is not limited to hard hats, safety shoes, Class III safety vest, and task specific eye protection.A cents € cents Operates power and mechanical tools and equipment such as air compressors, jackhammers, leak detection devices, tapping/drilling machines, valve operators, etc.A cents € cents Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment including dump trucks (with trailers), crew cabs, pick-up trucks and vans. Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Reports any accidents, incidents, and/or operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.A cents € cents Prepares accident and incident reports. Records all necessary field data and prepares accurate and descriptive daily work reports.A cents € cents Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:A cents € cents High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and five (5) years of progressive experience that involves the installation and/or maintenance of water services and cross-connection devices or equivalent experience.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:A cents € cents Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle OperatorA cents € (TM) s LIcense, a Commercial DriverA cents € (TM) s License with a Class B air brake endorsement, and a DC Water Vehicle Endorsement.A cents € cents Thorough knowledge of the water distribution and sewer collection systems and interaction of other utility systems. Complete knowledge of the processes and methods used in performing the work, operating the equipment, vehicles, and tools needed to perform assignments.A cents € cents Ability to lead the work of others and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.A cents € cents Ability to read and interpret pertinent water, sewer and construction plats, maps and drawings.A cents € cents Must be able to lift 50 pounds. A cents € cents Subject to indoor and/or outdoor environmental conditions that include exposure to extreme cold and/or hot temperatures.A cents € cents Works in water-filled and muddy ditches.A cents € cents Subject to noise.A cents € cents Incumbent is required to work shift work, holidays and weekends.A cents € cents Incumbent is subject to being placed on call during hours and schedule identified by the Authority and is required to work overtime during emergencies.We are proud to be an EEO/AA employer M/F/D/V.
