Tax Staff Accountant

We are a privately held company that values family, collaboration and dedication. We are currently searching for a Tax Staff Accountant to join our Finance and Accounting team. The essential function of the Tax Staff Accountant is to review and maintain the accuracy of all general ledger accounts relating to all jurisdiction taxes. This position is responsible for preparation of Petroleum taxes to Multi-States and Multi-Counties. Preparation of sales tax returns, personal property tax returns, and real estate payments is a major portion of this position. In addition, this position also coordinates all external tax audits and renews all licensing and bond requirements. The Tax Staff Accountant will assist with operating statement review, related entries, supporting schedules and reconciliations.Maintains a high level of service as provided in our corporate philosophy.Provides assistance with and prepares analytical spreadsheets for external auditors.Prepares, reviews and verifies accuracy of all balance sheet accounts relating to various corporate taxes on a monthly basis. Prepares monthly, quarterly, and yearly various tax returns, reports, and payments to multiple states and multiple counties, as well as the Federal Government. Seeks solutions and corrections to problems, errors and omissions as a result of monthly G/L reconciliations. This includes securing information from various data sources and advising accounting manager of potential changes needed.Prepares special projects, accounting and analytical work as requested and in support of the department.Formulates and attains yearly objectives which improve the overall results and performance of the Accounting Department.Assists the Accounting Manager in verification of accuracy in monthly operating statement preparation. Keeps abreast of changing tax regulations and maintains Tax Tables and Groups in computer system accordingly for vendors and customers.Identifies areas within the ERP software that require upgrades or changes to improve efficiencies or accuracy. Coordinates with internal departments and external vendors to implement custom changes to software system on an as needed basis.Undergraduate accounting degree desired but associate degree or related college accounting courses may be accepted.A minimum of five years of general ledger and accounting experience will be accepted in the absence of an undergraduate degree. Strong research and analytical skill essential. Advanced expertise in excel required.
