Transportation / Logistics Manager
Job DescriptionIn general, the essential functions of the Transportation Manager will be to effectively and efficiently carry out all of the responsibilities of the transportation of seafood to and from JJMcDonnell & Co., Inc. More importantly they are responsible for effectiveness and efficiency of safely operating lifting and moving equipment, providing quality and quantity control of staged materials, loading operations, and the efficient scheduling and routing of delivery vehicles. The position coordinates all shipping of seafood. This position is accountable for clear, timely communication and paperwork during the A cents € oefull cycleA cents € of the process (associated with transportation). The Transportation/Logistics Manager may assist other operations positions in their daily activities and must perform all other duties as assigned on an as needed basis. The Transportation/Logistics Manager reports to the Director of Operations and checks in with the Director of Operations at the beginning and end of every shift.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Responsible for the inbound and outbound product/freight at the company.Inbound will require regular and routine collaboration with the Procurement Department. Methods expected to employ include common carrier negotiations, airlines and trains where cost effective.Outbound consists of daily product deliveries (with JJ owned/operated units) to any and all customers that have placed orders on any given day in the tri-state metropolitan area. You would plan, coordinate and supervise the process of delivery by organizing truck (JJ Trucks) loads and routing schedules. It also consists of employing common carriers, airlines and trains where cost effective. Regarding air freight, this position will be responsible for the negotiation, set up and management of the process.Recommend optimal transportation modes, routing, equipment, or frequency. Review and revise schedules to increase efficiencies and to lower costs.Responsible for meeting all KPIA cents € (TM) s assigned.Develops and distributes delivery and pickup to/from the customer.Oversees the loading of products into trailers or trucks (in a sense a dock manager).Oversees the preparation of delivery documents for drivers (PITT operations)Coordinates delivery, repair, procurement, recovery and rental of trucks.Coordinates multiple shipping modes to various states.Create policies or procedures for logistics activities.Supervise and Train personnel in roles or responsibilities regarding transportation.Maintain metrics, reports, process documentation, customer service logs, or training or safety records.Implement specific customer requirements, such as internal reporting or customized transportation metrics.Resolve problems concerning transportation, imports or exports, or customer issues. Responsible for proper communication to customers via phone, email, text or fax as to the status of their order.Ensure carrier compliance (DOT and IFTA when need be) with company policies or procedures for product transit or delivery.Negotiate transportation rates or services; rentals; repairs; vehicle procurement analysis and recommendation.Negotiate with suppliers or customers to improve supply chain efficiency or sustainability.Recommend purchase of new or improved technology, such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS), newer units or automated systems, fully maximize products/services to their full potential.Collaborate with other departments to integrate transportation/logistics with business systems or processes, such as customer sales, order management, accounting, or shipping.Analyze the financial impact of proposed transportation/logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or mixes, or carriers.Collaboration with the Procurement Department-secures freight to our facility / rates / trucks.Analyze all aspects of corporate transportation/logistics to determine the most cost-effective or efficient means of transporting products or supplies.Review transportation/logistics reports for ways to improve efficiency or minimize the environmental impact of logistics activities.Accountabilities:Customer relationshipsCommunication Proficiency.Leadership.Organizational Skills.Problem Solving/Analysis.Technical Capacity.Time Management.Additional Responsibilities - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Proficient in Microsoft Suite (specifically excel)Outstanding customer service skillsDisplays judgment and tact at all timesOperate company-owned /leased equipment-safelyMust be able to climb in and out of delivery truckCoordination - Adjusting actions in relation to others' actionsMust be able to write clearlyActive Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate timesWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
