The M1 Abrams Tank System Maintainer is primarily responsible for supervising and performing maintenance on Abrams tanks. Specific duties may include: diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions; performing organizational maintenance and on-board direct support tasks on the suspension systems, steering systems, hydraulic systems, auxiliary power units, fire extinguisher/suppression systems, and gas particulate systems; and performing organizational maintenance on vehicular mounted armament, gun turret drive system, and fire control system. Plus, the skills you learn as an M1 Abrams Tank System Maintainer will help prepare you for a future as an electronics mechanic, an avionics technician, or a missile facilities repairer with civilian firms that design, build, and test weapons for the military. Job training for an M1 Abrams Tank Systems Maintainer requires 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 14 weeks of Advanced Individual Training.
