*please note: filling one (1) position; level of Manager or Sr. Manager commensurate with qualifications & experiencePOSITION SUMMARY:The Strategic Sourcing & Purchasing, Manager/Senior Manager is responsible for overseeing the contracting and purchasing of goods and services used by Aeras. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer, but will have broad responsibilities across the organization. This person will work closely with various departments to negotiate contracts, and will develop strategies related to procurement and organize and direct all purchasing activities for Aeras.This position must work and think independently; duties of this position are to be completed under minimal guidance. Discretion in handling assigned responsibilities, including the ability to resolve problems and exercise good judgment while maintaining confidentiality. Functions are to be completed in a timely manner with acceptable quality.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Duties and responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to the following:Work with functional areas of the organization to negotiate contracts for the purchase of goods and services with an optimal balance of price, terms and qualityWork with internal departments to gather and interpret business requirements and develop related sourcing strategiesResearch vendor/supplier capabilities, identify target vendors/suppliers for considerationLead sourcing projects involving Requests for Proposals (RFP), Request for Information (RFI), Supplier Selection, and Supplier Assessment processesLead assessment of quotations submitted and selection of vendors/suppliersLead vendor cost and budget negotiations and strategies and coordinate with Aeras legal department for review of new contracts as well as contract amendments Develop and manage supplier relationships including post contract performance management, and acting as liaison between vendors and AerasLead development and maintenance of Aeras electronic procurement systemReview contracts and agreements and follow-up on unusual items prior to approvalAssist with creation, or review, of purchase ordersIdentify, evaluate, and provide cost savings opportunitiesDevelop and ensure compliance with procurement policies and practices Champion strategic sourcing best practices and educates employees on Sourcing and Procurement process and responsibilities Actively support accrual process in conjunction with finance and program departmentsDemonstrate continuous effort to improve Sourcing and Procurement of spend, decrease turnaround times, streamline processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer serviceRepresent Aeras by taking a leadership role in planning and model building with foundation funders and other product development organizationsSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:NoQualificationsQUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree with a minimum of five (5) years of leadership/management experience in business, negotiating, contracting and sourcing in a clinical study environment with site contractsDeep understanding of clinical product development and R&D sourcing with proven record of strong price/contract negotiating and processing/administration skillsExperience with assessing and negotiating costs of non-clinical partner R&D supportKnowledge of managing supplier relationships, governance and risk principles, practices, procurement methods and procedures, including buying and contract negotiationDesire and ability to lead efforts with funders and other product development organizations in the development of shared systems and costing modelsAbility to participate in and inspire a team in the sourcing and procurement activities Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; able to work collaboratively with all levels of staff and external partners to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and resultsDemonstrate attention to detail and a high level of accuracy and work with confidential information; exercise sound judgment and strong project management skillsBe resourceful, diplomatic and professional and have demonstrated skill at delivering outstanding customer service while managing relationships; a can-do attitude and work style that supports teamwork (and lead teams when necessary), collaboration and positive relationships that compliments the work environment and customerAdaptable; be able to shift priorities and focus as departmental demand changesStrong organizational and analytical skillsFluency in English; excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as presentation skills to communicate clearly, concisely and effectivelyPosition-relevant computer experience including Microsoft Office and procurement systems softwarePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Experience with sourcing and vendor management with international clinical trials, especially in Sub-Saharan AfricaAnimal studies experience assessing and negotiating costs of non-clinical partner R&D supportLanguage fluencies aside from English a plusPHYSICAL DEMANDS:Mobility to perform the essential functions of the positionHearing and speech sufficient to verbally communicate in person and on the telephone constantly (66-100%)HAZARDOUS WORKING CONDITIONS:Normal office environmentOccasional travel; domestic and international as needed (less than 10%)OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties as assigned
