We are looking for a Technical Architect - CMS who will be responsible for the architecture of over 40 websites, key to helping students. This position is located in our Reston, VA office.The Technical Architect will focus on engineering innovative, strategic and long term solutions that align with Information Technology's enterprise architecture. Incumbents will have the necessary technical and leadership experience, knowledge, and skills to establish themselves as domain experts within the organization. Additionally, they will provide direction, guidance and mentorship to staff engaged in the development and application of technology, architectures, frameworks, methodologies, patterns, and best practices. The Technical Architect is responsible for designing and implementing 'right sized' and 'right 'sourced' high quality solutions that enable product and service delivery in support of the College Board's mission, strategy, goals, and objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and skilled communications. This role will serve as the top tier technical member of the Web Instruction and Content Management team, leading The College Board's IT department in building modern web site and content services in a fast paced, agile, DevOps team. Provide architectural guidance for the Drupal CMS in both full stack applications and decoupled content services for other applications. Engineer new architectures where needed to be presented and vetted through the Enterprise Architecture group. Design new patterns of both development automation pipelines and automated recovery systems with a flexible choice of tools.ResponsibilitiesCoordinate the creation and maintenance of technology roadmaps incorporating the life cycle of all relevant technology components.Design and implement 'right sized' and 'right sourced' technical solutions in support of business and IT initiativesEstablish and maintain alignment of technical assets across domains (eg, application, data, security, performance testing, etc.) within the enterprise portfolioDevelop and maintain transition roadmaps which meet the enterprise needs as identified during current state architecture analysis and the assessment of gaps and opportunitiesFacilitate the definition of, and adherence to, policies, technical standards and usage guidelinesMaintain an ongoing awareness of emerging technologies and industry trends to inform technical domain strategy and directionProvide architectural guidance for the Drupal CMS in both full stack applications and decoupled content services for other applications.Work on the Linux command line, coding Drupal 7 and 8 modules, working with front end technologies, working with MySQL databases, working with AWS services including but not limited to, S3, CloudFront, AWS Batch, Data Pipelines, Lambda functions and Cloud Formations as required and working and configuring Content Delivery Networks like Akamai.Plan and implement the migration from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8 in The College Board ecosystem of sites.QualificationsBS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field / equivalent experience 7+ years of experience developing, tuning and implementing large scale, complex system architecturesDemonstrated professional competence in the principles and practices of Content Management Systems as they relate to:ArchitectureDesign, development and configurationTechnical documentation and operationalization.SDLCPrinciples of Content organizationUser permission managementCloud based web securityWeb servicesFamiliarity with Content Management technologies and a demonstrated understanding of challenges posed by:Cloud-scale applications and mobile platformsAssessing the adequacy of technology controls and security measuresMaintaining effective policies and procedures as technology changesDatabase management and normalizationContent Delivery NetworksSQL and op code cachingVendor relationship management.Standard Web protocols ip/tcp/http/htmlDemonstrated expertise with development platforms and languages (PHP, Drupal, MySQL)Demonstrated experience with systems engineering and administration (testing infrastructures, Linux/Unix administration, etc.)Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring technical staff in the development and usage of technology architectures and solutionsDemonstrated ability to develop and maintain good customer working relationships.Working knowledge of and experience with other enterprise domains (application, security, infrastructure data, etc.)Expertise with Drupal API's, PHP 5 and 7, MySQ and Github WorkflowExpertise with diagraming Software and Atlassian suiteFamiliarity with Internet, application security best practices and Amazon Web ServicesApplyIf you are interested in joining the College Board and you meet our qualifications, we encourage you to apply by following the link below to send us your resume and a brief introductory cover letter that includes salary expectations.Benefits We offer our employees an outstanding benefits package which includes 4 weeks of paid time off, a generous retirement plan, tuition reimbursement and ongoing professional development and training.MissionThe College Board's mission is to connect students to college success and opportunity.
