RESPONSIBILITIESPosition located at the Department of Energy's (DOE) Remote Sensing Laboratory - Andrews(RSLA) on Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. The qualified candidate will serve as an emergencyresponse team member to deploy in support of the DOE in the case of radiological/nuclearemergencies; as such they will have to stand duty to be ready to deploy worldwide within a fewhours of notification. Will be expected to maintain and operate radiation detection equipment andcollect radiological data in field operations. Assist with the research and development of newconcepts related to the improvement of detection systems and related technologies. Prepares orcontributes to strategies, reports and technical proposals. Will participate in developing programsand possible designs. Support other personnel with specific tasks. Perform calibration,characterization, and system-level repairs of radiation detection systems. Assist with fabricatingelectronic and mechanical assemblies. Construct systems and prototypes as per schematics anddrawings. Maintain up to date knowledge of engineering applications, techniques, detector andacquisition electronics, digital imagery, and radio and satellite communications. Develop solutionsto routine technical problems and collaborate with peers. Perform other related work as assignedby supervisor. Accept individual responsibility and accountability for environment, safety, health,and quality processes within personal control, personal safety, and the safety of co-workers.Comply with established regulations and procedures for environment, safety, health, and qualityand perform duties in a way that will not cause personal danger, endanger other individuals, orviolate environment, safety, health, and quality regulations. Participate in and embrace NSTec environment,safety, health, and quality initiatives.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a calculus based Science, Technology,Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field, plus at least two years' relevant experience.Experience in one or more of the following is desirable: analog and digital electronics,communication systems, or radiation detection systems. Candidate must have good written andoral communication skills. Must be willing and able to work non-standard hours in variousenvironments, including at sea and aboard aircraft, stand on-call duty, and deploy worldwide onshort notice. Ability to serve as crew member on board rotary or twin engine fixed wing aircraftoperating equipment while in flight is essential. Must be willing and able to travel worldwide,sometimes under severe conditions, as a member of National Nuclear Security Administration(NNSA) emergency response teams. Frequent domestic and occasional international travel willbe required (20-40%). Must be capable of performing moderate lifting and meet requirements forworldwide deployment. Applicant must possess a valid driver's license. Department of Energy QClearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegaldrug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," willbe conducted.
