RESPONSIBILITIESServe as an Engineer at the Department of Energy's (DOE) Remote Sensing Laboratory - Andrews(RSLA) on Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, under the direction of the National Security SupportSection Manager. The employee will support the progression of current engineering projects. Assistwith the planning, research, and development of new concepts related to the improvement ofdetection systems and related technologies. Perform calibration, characterization andcomponent-level repairs of radiation detection systems. Administer to the needs of junior personneland provide leadership in absence of the manager. Fabricate electronic and mechanical assemblies.Maintain up to date knowledge of engineering applications, techniques, detector and acquisitionelectronics, digital imagery, and radio and satellite communications. Work within small teams onprojects involving technical integration, research and development, and emergency responseoperations. Will serve as an emergency response team member and deploy on exercise orreal-world deployments, sometimes on short notice. Interact with personnel from governmentagencies. Maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor in daily activities. Perform relatedwork as assigned by supervisor. Accept individual responsibility and accountability for environment, safety, health, and qualityprocesses within personal control, personal safety, and the safety of co-workers. Comply withestablished regulations and procedures for environment, safety, health, and quality and performduties in a way that will not cause personal danger, endanger other individuals, or violateenvironment, safety, health, and quality regulations. Promptly correct or report any hazard orpotential hazard to supervision. Understand the principles associated with the National SecurityTechnologies, LLC (NSTec) safety concept. Participate in and embrace NSTec environment,safety, health, and quality initiatives. . . QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a calculus-based Science, Technology, Engineering,Mathematics (STEM) field, plus five years' relevant experience. Master's degree is preferred.Professional electronic engineering knowledge of principles and theory of analog and digitalelectronics required. Knowledge of radiation detection systems a plus. Must possess effectiveinterpersonal communication skills and strong oral and written communication skills. Must be ableto explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience and to interface effectively with otherorganizations. Must be able to interpret and prioritize diverse and conflicting directions. Ability towork independently, set own work priorities, and effectively multitask in a fast-paced environment.Must be able to anticipate problems and changes in priorities to facilitate problem-solving. Abilityto cope with conflicting deadlines and frequent interruptions. Ability to interface and communicateeffectively with peers within NSTec, representatives of National Nuclear SecurityAdministration/Nevada Site Office, other government agencies, and peers from other contractor/national laboratory organizations. Must be willing and able to perform work duringnonstandard hours, take on-call duty and deploy worldwide on short notice. Must be capable ofperforming moderate lifting and be medically qualified for worldwide travel. Must submit toimmunizations for worldwide travel.
