About the Agency

Incumbent is assigned to the Operations Department of the National Gallery's Facilities Management. Repairs, Inspects, operates, services, troubleshoots, and maintains building mechanical equipment and air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation and heating systems; and takes necessary action to restore any electrical, plumbing, or control (BAS) systems when an emergency breakdown occurs.

  • Candidates must meet the qualification requirements for WG-5306-11, which includes possession of the following job elements:

    1. Ability to perform the duties of A/C Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision (SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT)

    2. Knowledge of HVAC/Mechanical equipment assembly, installation, and repair

    3. Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)

    4. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading)

    5. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment

    6. Knowledge of materials

    7. Troubleshooting

    Physical Requirements: Candidate must be able to lift own weight and must make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. Walking, climbing, crawling, kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling for extended periods of time is required. Some work may be performed in confined space. Must be able to carry tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 40 pounds.
