Job Type: Full-Time Location: 2100 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington *METRO-accessible*, Virginia       Arlington County Employees' Retirement System (ACERS) Investment Office is looking for an experienced professional to fill a part-time (20 hrs/wk) position for an Accounting & Administrative Specialist who will be responsible for performing accounting and administrative support functions for ACERS' Executive Director and Assistant Director. ACERS operates under the direction of the Retirement Board of Trustees, and is responsible for the management and investment of Arlington County's pension plan assets. The Retirement Office, in collaboration with investment consultants, recommends portfolio asset allocations and investment managers and comprehensively monitors plan performance. 

Duties Include:
  • Processes accounts payables via the County's automated Oracle-based accounts payable system;
  • Performs monthly accounting general ledger journal entries and reconciliations;
  • Assists with monthly financial close outs and annual end of year audits;
  • Manages requests for investment capital from investors;
  • Processes disbursements for private investments; and
  • Assists in the preparation of a monthly Board packages.

 Selection Criteria: Minimums: A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • ability to process accounts payables;
  • ability to make monthly general ledger journal entries;
  • ability to perform account reconciliations;
  • ability to perform monthly financial close outs; and
  • ability to assist with end of year audits.
Typically, this combination of experience and education is obtained through a two to four-year college or technical degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration, or other related degree and some experience performing general accounting functions.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with additional experience in:
  • Accounting in an investment firm or retirement office environment;
  • Working with MS Office Suite applications including Excel, Word and Outlook; and/or
  • Working with an Oracle-based accounts payable system.
