The Ivymount School is a non-public, special education school located in Rockville, MD serving over 200 students, ages 5 through 21, from throughout the Washington, DC area.  For over 55 years, Ivymount has provided educational programs and therapeutic services for students with disabilities with the goal of enhancing the lives of our students through evidence-based instruction and interventions.  

Ivymount currently seeks candidates for the Assistant Teacher position in our Model Asperger Program. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for supporting the teacher in the implementation of educational and behavioral programming.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in assigned content/curriculum area/s
  • Incorporate curriculum and individual student goals during instruction
  • Develop student materials needed for instruction in assigned areas
  • Provide modifications and accommodations based on student need
  • Assist teacher with IEP implementation
  • Implement activities for the application of academic skills in the natural environment
  • Implement classroom wide behavior management program

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field
  • Experience implementing educational programming with students with special needs
  • Understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and other related disorders
  • Knowledge of behavioral principles and instructional strategies based on applied behavior analysis
  • Ability to perform several tasks simultaneously
  • Strong organizational and time management skill
  • Cooperative participation within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Computer skills related to common office tasks such as email, conducting internet searches, and using MSOffice (e.g., MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Flexibility with regard to daily routine and responsibilities
  • Support of program philosophy
