The Ivymount School currently seeks candidates for the Instructor position for the Project SEARCH Smithsonian program in Washington DC. Ivymount's partnership with Project SEARCH is designed to provide young adults with intellectual disabilities (who are Transitioning Youth and are either in their last year of school or are recent graduates) the opportunity for independent futures. Project SEARCH programs offer total workplace immersion and help build competitive, marketable, and transferrable skills. The goal of this program is to provide the interns with real work experience leading to employment and to support the intern during this critical transition to life as a working adult. While participating in the program, the Project SEARCH instructor works with a multidisciplinary team that includes Business Partners, the interns' families, Job Coaches, and Vocational Rehabilitation Services Administration (DORS, DDA, and RSA) to develop job readiness skills and employment goals. The instructor is responsible for classroom management and supervision, and the implementation of the program throughout the Project SEARCH host business site, including job coaching and job development.

Essential Qualifications

  • BA in Special Education or related field with 2 or more years of experience with young adult/adult learners
  • Special Education Certification
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organization skills
  • Proficient with current technology involving all aspects of Apple devices including identifying and instructing use of a wide variety of apps
  • Proficient with Microsoft programs including but not limited to Word, Power Point, and Excel
  • Actively engage for work each day: 8:00am to 4:00pm
