Senior Project Engineer
Overview:Aerojet Rocketdyne is a world-recognized aerospace and defense leader providing propulsion and energetics to its space, missile defense, strategic, tactical missile and armaments customers throughout domestic and international markets. We offer a complete line of propulsion products for launch vehicles, missile defense, and advanced hypersonic propulsion. Aerojet Rocketdyne is currently seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our growing organization in Culpeper (Orange), Virginia. In this role, you will balance technical scope, customer expectations, and business interests as you provide project engineering support for the SM3 program and/or other programs as assigned. This current opening may be filled at this level as posted or at one level higher.Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):60% - Responsible for engineering design and overall coordination of various engineering projects. 20% - Responsible for assuring that delivered products meet Company and contractual requirements for engineering design. 20% - Prepare design development plans, in conjunction with Program Management, which define and allocate requirements; implement design and analysis tasks, special tasks, experiments and hardware/software/test requirements; define, prepare and evaluate program technical risk in relation to resources and capabilities to meet requirements based on input from functional engineering organizations; perform project coordination within engineering and interface with manufacturing, quality, test, procurement, and program activities in assigned areas to ensure the program plan is attained; and balance the program technical scope with cost and schedule. Ensures integrated concept selection and technical issue resolution through rigorous multi-disciplinary trade evaluations. Defines, drives, and communicates schedule performance, affordability targets, and technical compliance internally and with external suppliers.Requirements:Requires a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) and five years of directly related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires US Citizenship). Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information. Having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement. Additional Requirements:Detail oriented with good communication skills (verbal and written).Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Demonstrated ability to lead teams and operate effectively in a team environment.High consciousness for personnel and equipment safety (safety regulations, principles and practices of work safety) and the ability to utilize a variety of personal protective equipment.Ability to read and interpret specifications and technical drawings.Experience with engineering test equipment, CAD, and computer applications with various office and engineering software applications.Knowledge of theories, principles and practices of engineering and project management methods such as plan and coordinate schedule, budget techniques, identify/plan/monitor priorities and work flow, technical and programmatic risk assessments, etc. Synthesize program and technical requirements necessary to achieve complex technical objectives.Knowledge of chemistry, systems engineering principles (requirements and risk management) and computerized control systems and instrumentation. Ability to use a variety of test and measurement equipment to interpret data.Cost Account Management process and procedures. Desired Qualifications:Experience working with energetic materials (explosives and propellants).Strong background in safety and PSM.Strong background in Microsoft Project.Strong background in MRP and Oracle. Work Environment/Physical Requirements:he work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (ie ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. May also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
