POSITION OVERVIEW A rapidly expanding and entrepreneurial technology company, Alarm.com is seeking a motivated Quality Engineer who wants to be part of our fast-paced and growing backend application development team. Quality Engineers work with the Technology team to test the functionality and performance of our backend services using a combination of both hardware and software tools. Quality Engineers are also involved in the testing of wireless network devices and security panels that are controlled by the Alarm.com app.Very few small companies innovate and develop across such a broad range of technologies as Alarm.com. This position is ideal for the candidate who seeks a small, friendly company culture where one can work closely with smart and highly productive people across a very interesting spectrum of wireless, software, and hardware/device technologies to develop outstanding consumer products.RESPONSIBILITIES The primary job responsibilities of a Quality Engineer on the backend application development team include but not limited to:Analyzing a feature specification and producing a comprehensive test plan to thoroughly exercise the featureUnderstanding the Alarm.com backend infrastructure.Testing of weekly Backend Build related ticketsStress testing of various Backend applications in the Test EnvironmentRegression testing of Backend applicationsResearching and implementing ways of automating Backend application testingDocumentation of the way the various Backend applications interact with each other and various hardware.Executing test cases, tracking defects and following defects through the resolution process until the fix is verified and closedInteracting with Developers, Business Analysts and Product Management to ensure the quality of the software productSetting up and maintaining test environmentsApplying test methodology, engineering and product knowledge in certification of productsEnsuring the success of weekly backend software deploymentsUnderstanding the customer and how the product will be used by the customerREQUIREMENTSBachelor's degree in computer or electrical engineering. Master's degree in computer or electrical engineering is a plus.Good understanding of hardware, software, and network technologies.Firm grasp of testing methodologies, preferably backend and scale testing.Ability to understand the architecture of applications, identify vulnerabilities and come up with ways to tackle them. Also perform stress, load & regression testing on these backend applications.Basic knowledge of version control systems such as Subversion.Knowledge of programming languages like C, Java, C#.Strong scripting abilities, preferably python.Basic SQL experience is required.Analytical thinking, creative problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills with great attention to detail.Strong verbal and written communication skillsStrong analytical skillsTeam-oriented individualProcess-oriented individual with the ability to pay close attention to detailAbility to work independently under general supervision.
