Purpose/Primary Function:The R&D Engineer is responsible for the improvement of existing products and the design and development of new products, formulations, and processes. This will include developing resources and vendors capable of meeting the company's needs under the supervision of the Senior Manager. The Engineer will be responsible for reporting technical information, communicating results, and making recommendations for future work. Key Duties and Responsibilities:Create/ensure/promote a safe and environmentally responsible work environmentConduct Safe execution of pilot and/or plant trials and testingDesign, develop, and improve Trex products, processes, and/or raw materialsSet-up experimental design, develop required operating parameters for materials and equipment based on observed data and best practicesUnderstand raw material and/or product testing techniques, data acquisition, and data analysisDevelop all required product, process, and/or raw material documentationCommunicate and consult with outside technical resources, including vendorsCommunicate project status as needed across all departments and levels of the organization as requiredGenerate project ideas to improve Trex costs, profitability, market share, and/or product offeringParticipate in additional duties as required by leadershipRequired SkillsThis position is responsible for all assigned activities related to product development from cradle to grave. Good problem solving and communication skills are a must. A strong desire to acquire information by analysis and "hands on" practices is essential. Must be able to work as a member of a technical team.Required ExperienceA Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Science with 5+ years of experience is required. Preferred experience includes manufacturing or research experience in thermoplastic processing, wood polymer composites, and/or chemical manufacturing. Other preferred experience includes polymerization processes or advanced manufacturing techniques. Experience in 6 Sigma a plus. Ability to travel up to 25% of time needed. Job LocationWinchester, VA
