Coordinator, Water Communications
The Authority is seeking a highly motivated Coordinator, Water Communications.The Coordinator, Water Communications is responsible for providing relevant information pertaining to DC Water through the development and dissemination of public outreach materials, including fact sheets, press releases, technical briefs and educational materials. Work will include responding to questions and concerns of DC Water customers and other key stakeholders, translating technical information for effective risk communication, and promoting the overall mission of DC Water. Work will require maintaining knowledge of current and innovative water technologies and an understanding of water quality issues.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:* Provides technical outreach support to various departments inside DC Water, including: External Affairs, Water Services, and Customer Service.* Research, develops and prepares information and resources for use in presentations and outreach efforts.* Develops, implements, and conducts public relations campaigns within the District that are associated with water quality, water conservation, and other programs of the Authority.* Attends public meetings upon request or as designated by the Chief, External Affairs and the Manager, Communications and Government Relations and provides professional responses to public concerns and issues. Conducts presentations in public settings on water quality, water conservation and other programs of the Authority.* Works closely with the Drinking Water Division to obtain and comprehend latest water quality compliance results, changes in water treatment, and new monitoring programs that can be shared with the public and other government agencies.* Engages media, government, community groups and the public in addressing and responding to water issues. * Provides recommendations to senior management regarding the development and formulation of policies and procedures that impact DC Water programs.* Coordinates with external agencies such as the Department of the Environment and the Department of Health, including participation in community events and in the development and dissemination of outreach materials.* Manages strategic communications for regulatory and non-regulatory drinking water issues, including public notification in accordance with the Safe Drinking Water Act and responding to routine and emergency events, ensuring effective and consistent communications.* Participates in local, regional and national stakeholder groups and research projects on water quality, communications and federal regulatory requirements.* Assists with writing and editing content for the dcwater.com website and DC Water publications and reports.* Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:* Bachelor's Degree in Environment Science or related field from an accredited university or college and a minimum of three (3) years experience in review and analysis of water & water quality related programs or public outreach and communications; or equivalent combination of education and experience.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:* Ability to comprehend and simplify analytical data and reports.* Ability to develop presentations, brochures and other outreach materials.* General office conditions.We are proud to be an EEO/AA employer M/F/D/V.
