    You must possess an in-depth and mature knowledge and familiarity of committee, sub-committee, and select committee procedures, processes, and people involved in the day-to-day mechanics of the legislative branch that would be garnered through significant (at least 3 years) Capitol Hill experience working as a Legislative Assistant or related positions and significant experience working with relevant Congressional Committees.

    You must have one year Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private/military sector or in Congress where the GS system is not used) giving the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position.  Experience must be reflected in your resume.

    Specialized experience required for this position is: Experience managing and facilitating strategic engagements with Congress, the media and the general public; or serving as a staff member on Capital Hill; or serving as agency liaison to the U.S. Congress and prepares agency officials for Congressional interactions.


    Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies:

    1. Advanced knowledge of the Congressional defense budget and oversight processes, and DoD legislative affairs policy, processes, and procedures.
    2. Skill in establishing and maintaining contacts with customers expressing widely differing viewpoints.
    3. Analytical ability to evaluate complex variables and issues including legislative issues and opinions that potentially impact the agency.

    Time-in-Grade Requirements: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements for merit promotion consideration. Time-in-grade is the 52-week requirement Federal employees in competitive service, General Schedule (GS) positions at GS-5 and above must serve before they are eligible for promotion (advancement) to the next grade level.
