Military and External Accounts Specialist

The George Mason University Third Party Billing Office, within the Student Accounts Office, invites candidates to apply for a Military and External Accounts Specialist position. This position reports to the Manager, Third Party Billing. Responsibilities: * Plan, execute, manage, and evaluate Chapter 33, Chapter 31, DOD Tuition Assistance, and Virginia PrePaid 529 deferred tuition billing, VA-ONCE, Ellucian Banner and other systems; * Accurately submit Chapter 33 tuition and fee certifications for Post 9/11 benefit students; * Comply with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and related federal regulations, state statutes, university policies, and current practices and procedures; * Provide needed services and assistance to veteran students, veteran dependents, parents, and other students; * Prepare accurate, concise VA and university reports; * Coordinate and receive program compliance audits from the VA Regional Office; * Supervise VA work study students and administer training and work assignments; * Use Banner and VA-ONCE system effectively and know the basic tenets of Student Accounts, Office of the University Registrar, Office of Student Financial Aid, Office of Military Services, and the admissions process as they relate to veteran student enrollment and retention; * Attend and participate in staff and professional meetings and related university activities; and * Participate in professional development and training opportunities.

Required Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree--or an equivalent combination of education and experience--in business, finance or accounting; * Demonstrated experience in customer service, accounts receivable reconciliation, or other related bookkeeping experience; * Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Access; * Must be detail-oriented; * Must have a basic knowledge of veteran benefit programs and an understanding of student privacy laws and policies; and * Possess superior communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with VA-ONCE, Ellucian Student and Accounts Receivable, or other equivalent computer systems.
