Description: Role: Data Analyst/AssociateReports to: Head of Cross Commodity Analytics, Americas CA GroupLocation: Houston/Annapolis Role PurposeWood Mackenzie seeks experienced professionals and recent graduates to take our Americas commodity research and analysis to a new level. You will support a large team of research analysts focusing on the oil, natural gas, coal, power and renewables markets across the Americas. This includes designing, building, populating, and automating fundamental economic models (supply/demand/price) and associated data workflows, culminating with efficient delivery of this intelligence to our clients. Strong technical knowledge is a requirement for this position, including web scraping, data management, scripting and process automation, and building of new and innovative platforms including visualizations and linear programming/optimization. Analysts must be able to successfully compile market data, disseminate this information into our economic forecasting models or written reports. This requires advanced understanding of data tools and programming languages such as Excel, Access, SQL Server, R, GAMS, AIMMS, Gurobi, CPLEX, Spotfire, Power BI, VBA, Python, etc., including the ability to learn new skills quickly. Main ResponsibilitiesWork with other technical analysts and project managers in implementing novel solutions that support our Research businessStay up-to-date with alternative or new modelling platformsHelp identify and implement best practices for software/model/database developmentDevelop relationships and collaborate with like-minded data analystsResearching and collating information on assets and markets from a variety of sources including web scrapingWorking as part of a team, sharing skills and knowledge with others while having a strong curiosity to learn from others as well are paramount.Dialogue with project managers and fellow data analyst colleagues will be criticalDeveloping an understanding of the needs and expectations of our clients and how we can best serve those through internal data, process, and model efficiency Knowledge, Skills and Experience RequiredThe successful candidate may be recent graduate (with a bachelor degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Computer Science, or related fields) or have 1-3 years relevant work experience, ideally with energy market modelling capability.
