Montgomery College, Office of Information Technology, has need for a full-time, Accessible Technology Coordinator
, #S05213. The normal work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.

 

Job Summary:

The Accessible Technology Coordinator will take an active collaboration approach with the Office of Compliance, Academic Affairs and Student Services to offer guidance and recommendations on how to monitor instructional materials and ensure all instructional materials are in compliance with the ADA and Section 508.    Contacts include Office of Information Technology (OIT) leaders and staff, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance director, College administrators, faculty, and staff, regulatory agency personnel, peers and experts in other institutions, and contractors, vendors, and maintenance providers to obtain and share information, provide consultation, and resolve problems

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide guidance to faculty and staff on students with disabilities who often times processes information differently; helping selected staff that specialize in working with this population to understand how the need arises for multiple means of accessing course materials in alternative formats according to the ADA such as: providing alternative formats such as braille textbooks and e-texts.
  • Conduct communication and outreach efforts to enhance awareness regarding accessibility of information technology (IT) resources;
  • Coordinate processes and workflow to help ensure the accessibility of IT resources;
  • Research and remain abreast of legal changes regarding web accessibility, IT resources, and assistive technology.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable laws and regulations including the ADA, Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 to enable people with disabilities to access IT resources at the College.
  • Conduct automated, manual, and functional accessibility testing on the College website and related media to ensure compliance with accessibility standards.
  • Provide guidance regarding accessibility standards and collaborate with content managers to identify and correct accessibility errors within web content and instructional materials and resources.
  • Liaise with College units regarding accessibility efforts and information.
  • Develop relationships with key disability-related advocacy groups to seek input regarding accessibility efforts.
  • Develop effective working relationships with key vendors of assistive technology products.
  • Work collaboratively with the procurement office to provide guidance regarding the requirements for purchases.



Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in information technology, assistive technology, educational technology, or a related field.
  • Three years of professional experience in monitoring and coordinating accessibility of information technology (IT) resources.
  • Experience in managing projects related to providing assistive technologies and IT accessibility.
  • Thorough knowledge of accessibility laws, regulations, statutes, etc., regarding web accessibility, including Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Sections 504 and 508), the ADA (with amendments), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 1997, Section 255 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, and the Assistive Technology Act of 2004.
  • Thorough knowledge of a variety of software applications, equipment platforms, and training methods, along with an understanding of multimedia systems.
  • Ability to provide project leadership and represent the unit on key projects College-wide.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Five years of experience monitoring and coordinating accessibility of IT resources.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience collaborating with a diverse group of people.
  • Certifications and or trainings through California State University, Northridge (CSUN).
