Talent Acquisition Specialist - University Human Resources (2 opportunities)

The Talent Acquisition Specialist collaborates to recruit, screen and place a highly qualified, diverse pool of candidates in regular, temporary and temp-to-hire opportunities within the University.  S/he delivers quality, timely and custom-tailored talent acquisition services utilizing proactive and creative sourcing strategies to recruit high quality candidates, and serves as a consultant to campuses and departments utilizing best practice talent acquisition strategies.  The Talent Acquisition Specialist has duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Partners with hiring managers, HR Client Service Partners (CSP), and Human Resource Contacts (HRC) to identify and attract the best talent for direct hire, temporary, and temp-to-hire needs; and initiates meetings with the hiring managers to discuss open position needs/requirements, candidate selection criteria, and an appropriate recruitment strategy.
  • Manages the full cycle recruitment process for open positions in assigned departments, to include sourcing candidates, screening resumes, coordinating interview process, interviewing candidates, conducting reference checks, coordinating background checks, and making salary recommendations
  • Develops standardized interview methodologies for hiring managers to ensure objective evaluation of candidates and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Communicates effectively with the hiring manager/interview team to ensure preparedness throughout the interview process.
  • Ensures all recruiting and hiring practices are in accordance with federal and state employment law ensuring fair employment practices; and ensures all hiring processes are in accordance with University policies and procedures.
  • Drives a strategic sourcing approach for assigned vacancies leveraging multiple recruiting sources (for example, applicant tracking system, job boards, social media, professional associations, job fairs, and networking) and techniques to identify and engage applicants and build pool of highly qualified applicants; and utilizes the applicant tracking system (and other databases, as appropriate) for screening, sourcing, and reporting of applicant pool and resulting metrics.
  • Provides support to the recruiting process including posting positions on internal and external job sites; schedules and conducts interviews and in-depth phone screening; makes recommendations to hiring managers; coordinates all communications with applicants; and provides guidance on drafting offer letters.
  • Participates in the candidate selection process, and utilizes applicable metrics to drive hiring and workforce planning strategies in collaboration with the hiring departments and respective HR Client Service Partners.
  • Provides a positive candidate experience by providing timely feedback of the progress and next steps in the hiring process.
  • Serves as main point of contact for temporary employees, and oversees relationship of temporary employees with the University and its departments.


  • Bachelor's degree - preference for Human Resources or related field   
  • 3 to 5 years of professional level recruiting experience
  • Extensive knowledge of human resources issues, employment laws, and best practices
  • Excellent planning, time management, communication, decision-making, presentation, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build relationships across the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as part of a collaborative team and work independently as needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Workday Recruiting or other web based applicant tracking systems

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience using social media to support talent acquisition
  • Creative problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to source passive candidates
