POSITION DESCRIPTION Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Programs is responsible for the effective management and growth of Trees for the Future's field-based teams and the projects they implement. This position ensures efficient and effective implementation of all Forest Garden programs from mobilization to close-out. The Director of Programs directly manages regional directors and the impact evaluation director. S/he works work closely with the Executive Director and all departments at Trees for the Future to ensure collaboration and an integrated vision in working to achieve strategic objectives. The position requires excellent coordination skills, technical knowledge, experience working in developing countries, and skills in managing, prioritizing, and completing multiple tasks and responsibilities at a given time. The applicant should be collaborative, professional, and flexible, and will be expected to enhance and streamline program management and reporting tools and systems, as well as identify issues and risks related to program implementation. This position is based at Trees for the Future's headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland as an at-will position, with field travel to program countries as needed. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership and CoordinationProvide direct supervision to program staff at HQ, regional directors, and M&E director, and high level oversight of all country programsCommunicate and coordinate regularly with senior management, communications and marketing, business development, and finance, to ensure all departments are operating in sync and in adherence to organizational objectivesEnsure programs are effectively managed and projects implemented according to the strategic objectives of the organizationDevise tools and management systems to improve the efficiency of program operations, management, data collection, and reportingCoordinate the development of budgets, approve funding for programs, and ensure financial accountability of programsAnalyze project data and financial and activity reports, and communicate regularly with program staff to ensure programs and projects adhere to defined scope, budget, and timeline, and that any issues and challenges are identified and addressed in a timely mannerEnsure programs and staff adhere to all internal policies as well as US laws and regulations and those of the countries in which TREES operatesWork closely with regional directors and other program staff to ensure that standards, training, and M&E requirements are met on time and within the allocated budgetEnsure high-quality, timely development and delivery of reports and communications materials to donors, stakeholders, and the general public, reviewing and verifying materials to ensure accuracyCoordinate timely submission of accurate project data and high quality media resources for use by marketing, communications, and business development teams Technical SupportEnsure that project strategies are technically sound and that activities and accomplishments are resulting in sustainable impactDevelop or ensure access to training materials and technical resources for field staff as required to support sound project implementationFacilitate training and work closely with program colleagues to ensure field staff have the technical skills and knowledge needed to effectively train and mentor project participants on the Forest Garden ApproachAssist with the packaging, roll-out, and management of TREES Forest Garden Resource Center and TOT programWork with M&E director to develop and operationalize a monitoring system to track the impact of the Forest Garden Approach extension per our strategic objectivesPackage and promote best practices in agroforestry and poverty alleviation Strategic Partnership and Business DevelopmentRepresent TREES in meetings, workshops, conferences, and other events to promote TREES' mission and cultivate partnerships that align with our strategic objectivesCultivate and manage relationships and strategic partnerships with institutions, organizations, donors, vendors, and other potential or existing service providers or stakeholders as needed with the goal of ensuring adequate external support, resources, and access to services for programsLead or assist with reconnaissance and ground-truthing for project strategy and budget development as needed and work closely with business development team to ensure timely submission of high quality grant proposals, external communications, and reporting QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in development, agriculture, management, or other related fieldTen years of experience working in development or other related sectorsAt least three years of management experience, including direct supervision of professional and support staff, and assembling teams working on multi-faceted international development programsExcellent organizational and leadership skillsDemonstrated success developing, operationalizing, and evaluating innovative program strategies and efficient program management systems resulting in measurable successes and program growthRelevant technical background in agroforestry, sustainable agriculture, livelihood development, and poverty alleviationKnowledge of and experience in value chain developmentDemonstrated experience in networking and cultivating strategic partnerships and alliances with NGOs, institutions, donors, service providers, and other practitioners in the development sectorExcellent writing and public speaking abilities, and superior interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skillsProficient in using technology as a management and reporting toolWillingness to work with a high-performance, collaborative, and constructive teamPersonal qualities of integrity, credibility, flexibility, and a commitment to and passion for Trees for the Future's mission and valuesAbility to travel to program countries for program oversight, staff training, partnership cultivation, donor visits, and moreFluent in written and spoken English (required) and French (preferred);
