Summary PenFed is hiring an Accountant II, General Accounting in Alexandria, VA . The primary purpose of this job under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for moderately complex accounting activities related to maintenance of General Accounting areas and the General Ledger accounts and analysis of related activities resulting in managerial reports and financial statements. In addition, the incumbent assists in the implementation of automated financial systems and the development of accounting requirements for General Accounting impact of new products and services- particularly in the areas of branch and cash on hand accounts. Reconcile General Accounting activity for assigned accounts, researching discrepancies and preparing correcting journal entries to the General Accounting. Prepare monthly balance sheet and income schedules as part of the financial statement monthly closing process Analyze assigned accounts to prepare monthly accrual entries, as needed or assigned. Provide recommendations for improving current balancing and reconciling procedures Assist the operations staff when necessary to facilitate accurate reporting of daily operational information to Accounting Assist in activity reporting as needed or requested Assist in departmental projects as required including special studies and analyses. Maintain and update periodic procedures and processes. Assists in preparing other assigned monthly GL reconciliations and review schedules. Education and Experience Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related field is required and/or accounting/General Accounting certifications or direct General Accounting experience in an automated scenario. Minimum of two (2) years’ of experience in accounting and General Accounting activities is required. Supervisory Responsibility This position may or not supervise employees. Licenses and Certifications CPA or CPA candidate preferred Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.
