JOB SUMMARY:

About the Agency

The Eisenhower School is recruiting for a faculty member to serve in the Department of National Security and Economic Policy The incumbent is responsible for conducting education and continuing research in the fields of economics, national security strategy, military policy, force employment, mobilization and management of resources at the national level for the CJCS, the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and other Defense agencies.

National Defense University (NDU) supports the joint warfighter by providing rigorous Joint Professional Military Education to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and select others in order to develop leaders who have the ability to operate and creatively think in an unpredictable and complex world.

The Eisenhower School prepares selected military and civilians for strategic leadership and success in developing our national security strategy and in evaluating, marshaling, and managing resources in the execution of that strategy.

This is a Title 10 Excepted Service Appointment. Appointment is not to exceed 3 years with the possibility for extension.

  • To qualify for this position, you must:

    Have a master's degree, doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree preferred in in economics, public policy, business administration, or a related discipline.

    Have a substantial record of excellence in teaching in a higher education institution(s).

    Have research experience, demonstrated through scholarship, publications, and/or outreach activities; recognition within academic, research communities, or professional experience.

    Have relevant professional experience in economic policy and its implications for national security, and in national security/defense strategy and resourcing.

    Have experience working on collaborative interdisciplinary teams.

    Desired Qualifications:
    Experience as team leader of an interdisciplinary team, academic department chair, or program manager.
    Experience teaching at the graduate level within the Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) system.
    Criteria For Determining Academic Rank:
    Assistant Professor is an individual who must possess an earned master's degree, doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree preferred, in economics, public policy, business administration, or a related discipline. They should have progressive professional experience in a field related to economic policy, and documented excellence serving at the assistant professor level at a regionally-accredited university or college involving full-time teaching.

    Associate Professor is an individual who must possess an earned doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree in economics, public policy, business administration, or a related discipline. They should have significant professional experience in economic policy and its implications for national security, and in national security/ defense strategy and resourcing. They should have significant professional experience with economic policy and documented outstanding full-time graduate-level teaching at a regionally-accredited university or college for at least five years.

    Professor of Practice is an individual who must possess an earned master's degree in economics, public policy, business administration, or related discipline and a documented record of at least 10 years of outstanding performance as a senior-level practitioner in an executive branch agency of the federal government, a professional staff member of an appropriate Congressional Committee related to defense strategy and resource allocation, or a senior-level executive in the private sector with an outstanding record of public service, professional achievements in areas relevant to national security and resource strategy, specialized certifications and /or regional, national or international prominence.

    Professor is an individual who must possess an earned doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree in economics, public policy, business administration, or a related discipline. They should have significant professional experience with economics policy and documented outstanding full-time graduate-level teaching at a regionally-accredited university or college for at least seven years

    Background or Security Investigation: This is a Non-Critical Sensitive position which requires a background investigation. The individual selected for this position is required to obtain and maintain a secret security determination to occupy a Non-Critical Sensitive position within the agency as a condition of employment.
