Toxicology and pharmacokinetic assessment technician (WRAIR-In Vitro Core)
GDIT is seeking a Toxicology and pharmacokinetic assessment technician (In Vitro Core) to support the mission of the Experimental Therapeutics (ET) Branch of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). The mission of the WRAIR Branch of Experimental Therapeutics is to discover and develop new pharmaceutical agents to protect military members from death, disease, and injury. The ET Branch is organized into three distinct departments which contribute to the different phases leading to FDA drug approval. The three comprising departments are the Departments of Drug Discovery, Drug Development, and Clinical Pharmacology.This position is in direct support of the Department of Drug Discovery. Specific tasks include:
- Provide support for in vivo pharmacokinetic studies in rodent and non-human primates.Prepare various oral and injectable drug formulations for all efficacy studies.Perform single or multiple dose range studies of oral or injected antimalarial compounds assessing drug metabolism in animal models, using multiple routes of administration.Perform animal blood sampling from tail vein weekly.Collect and assess clinical observation from animal studies with regard to general toxicity evaluation (body weight loss, behavior activity, urine excretion, e.g.).Perform pharmacokinetic studies in rhesus monkey (dosing, blood sampling, sample analysis).Report to the PI results, clinical observations, and data from various studies and establish Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) for each study and record data in computer databases for further evaluation and development.Assist in the maintenance of 2 laboratories and various equipment items.Assist with supply maintenance including inventory regulation, proper disposal, and requesting new items to maintain laboratory functions.Assist with establishing animal models such as gametocyte models and assays and humanized-mouse models for antiparasitic drug testing.
