Job Summary: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a dynamic Deputy Division Director for a full-time, three-year, fixed-term, exempt, renewable appointment in its Communications and Knowledge Management Division (CKM). The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Division Director in managing the division’s knowledge management portfolio and in providing overall intellectual leadership and guidance for the strategic communications and knowledge management activities to contribute to IFPRI’s mission. The successful candidate will also assist the Division Director with the management of staff in the division. This position is based at IFPRI headquarters in Washington, D.C. Essential Duties • Support the Division Director in providing intellectual leadership and guidance for the different areas in the division’s portfolio and within the broader context of IFPRI's Strategic Plan. Ensure smooth and efficient communications and knowledge management support for the institute. • Assist the Division Director with supervising CKM managers and coordinating their work. Assisting the Division Director with provide the division’s multicultural staff with guidance, direction and support to ensure that they be able to accomplish their established goals. • Support the Division Director in implementing IFPRI’s Communications Strategy to increase the impact of IFPRI’s research on reducing hunger and poverty. To this end, foster strategic thinking and the application of cutting-edge technologies to promote IFPRI’s research. • Expand new partnerships with other organizations for the exchange of electronic information. Use Open Access and Open Data to ensure that IFPRI’s research and publications are available from multiple services and in multiple formats, including in other organizations’ portals, websites, and repositories. • Closely follow public discourse, trends and public policy issues to propose and develop communications solutions that support IFPRI’s mission and strengthen the institute’s comparative advantage. • Prepare CKM reports as required by IFPRI’s top management. Use metrics to demonstrate the impact of IFPRI research and their outcomes. • Represent the division at relevant meetings with visitors, donors and at international meetings as required; fill in for the Division Director when needed. Required Qualifications: • Advanced degree in a relevant field plus fifteen years of relevant experience • Minimum of eight years of demonstrated leadership and strong experience building and managing multicultural teams of communications professionals in diverse functional areas • Fluency in knowledge management and possession of technical skills for managing the web and institutional repositories. • Strong organizational skills, especially in a growing, international organization. • Excellent people skills, with an ability to inspire and lead different interdisciplinary teams • Solid working knowledge of budgeting and fundraising.
