About the Position:

The employee serves within the Neuropsychology Assessment Service, a specialty service in a large military medical center.  Comprised of 12 staff members, the service is organizationally part of the Behavioral Health Directorate.  Referrals are made by primary care and by specialty providers in the medical center as well as by outlying facilities.  The diagnostically diverse patient population consists of beneficiaries of the military healthcare system.  The service conducts a two-year neuropsychology fellowship program and the medical center features a dynamic professional training environment.  Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is in the middle of the vibrant Washington D.C. metropolitan area with its wealth of professional, avocational, and leisure opportunities.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Degree: Satisfactory completion of all the requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required. (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application package)

Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Experience performing highly skilled clinical duties; assessing behavioral effects of central nervous system dysfunction; treatment of active duty service members and their families in the military healthcare system; use of neuropsychological and psychological testing based on patients' case history and needs, experience with recommendation and treatment plans, consultation to specialists in neurosurgery, neurology, geriatric medicine, etc. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). 

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

License: You must have a permanent full and unrestricted license to practice psychology in a state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States. (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your license with your application package)

Management would prefer a candidate that has successfully completed a 2-year fellowship or residency in clinical neuropsychology or holds certification by the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology/ABPP
