EchoStar is seeking a Software Engineer II at its Cheyenne, WY operations facility to be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of custom software products needed to support a 24/7 spacecraft operations environment.  This individual will support existing systems as well as research, develop, and implement new tools and technology in support of evolving operations requirements and to improve system security, availability, and performance. 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Participate in recurring process improvement meetings with management, peers, and end users to identify opportunities to deliver new or enhanced software tools.
  • Design and develop software using Microsoft .NET and various scripting languages to meet the high availability and performance requirements of a spacecraft operations environment.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all in-house developed software tools.
  • Respond to system outages and provide end user support to Spacecraft Controllers and Engineers, escalating issues to senior team members as appropriate.
  • Develop scripts to streamline routine tasks for Spacecraft Operations team members.
  • Ensure maximum system uptime by performing routine/preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain system documentation and provide training to team members on new and updated software tools.
  • Occasional night and weekend work as well as participation in a rotating on-call schedule is required.


  • Basic Qualifications:
  • This position requires access to export controlled items—candidate must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; with two or more years of direct experience or eight or more years of directly related experience without a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel required.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working in a spacecraft operations environment, MatLab development, and Microsoft SQL Server are a plus.
