  • Experience supervising large custodial work teams in an educational or industrial environment

  • Working knowledge of methods, materials, and best practices used in building maintenance work and proper use and care of equipment associated with custodial work

  • Ability to train, inspect, and implement corrective actions for the work of a custodial team

  • Ability to maintain records associated with job duties

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)

  • Excellent human relations and communication skills

  • Advanced Custodial Certifications preferred

  • Valid Driver’s License preferred

JOB DESCRIPTION:  

This position is responsible for training, coordinating, monitoring, and quality control of all custodial work performed in Loudoun County Public Schools.  Actively assists in coordinating substitute custodian assignments, which cover absences of regularly assigned custodians. Organizes and leads special custodial projects teams to accomplish priority assignments.  Leads team to remove snow/ice from walking paths and sidewalks on LCPS property.  Recommends changes and improvements to custodial practices, equipment, and products. Serves as a professional and technical source of guidance to School Head Custodians. Work is primarily performed within the school building, during the evening shift, to include driving between all Loudoun County Public Schools. The Lead Head Custodian reports to the Custodial Operations Supervisor within the Facilities Services Division.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Conducts and oversees training for newly hired custodians on use of cleaning/floor care equipment and supplies, grounds maintenance equipment and snow/ice removal

  • Conducts and coordinates periodic advanced custodial training

  • Coordinates training by vendors for new equipment or cleaning products

  • Observes the performance of Head Custodians and evening custodians, providing guidance and improvement training

  • Performs quality control and safety monitoring with custodial personnel

  • Works with Custodial Operations Supervisor and Custodial Supervisor in developing improved work processes, conducting product evaluation, and determining custodial supply needs

  • Ability to perform the duties of a Head Custodian in their absence

  • Performs other work as assigned
