The National Center for Advanced Manufacturing (NCAM) is a partnership between NASA, the State of Louisiana, the University of New Orleans, Louisiana State University, and the UNO Research and Technology Foundation, Inc. Founded in 1999, the center provides research in advanced manufacturing.
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of NCAM including: management of personnel, fiscal oversight, program development and implementation of programs; legal and fiduciary compliance; accounting and budgeting; Board management and administration; public relations; networking and advocacy of NCAM.
This position reports to LSU's Executive Vice President and Provost through the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED). The Executive Director is responsible for quarterly reporting to NASA and the Advisory Board of NCAM for all activities related to the management, administration and operation of the programs, including to achieve its strategic goals in both education and research. The Executive Director is responsible for the Center's fiscal activities.
Working with all parties, the Executive Director provides leadership and direction to the organization's mission and program of work to advance manufacturing in areas particularly related to the NASA mission.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The principal duties and responsibilities of the Executive Director shall consist of, but are not limited to the following:
Funding Generation- Oversees grant planning and implementation, including identifying resources and opportunities for grants, sponsorships and other revenue generating activities. Foster partnerships with government, industry and academia, brings collaborative teams together in pursuit of research initiatives. Supports NASA as an engaged partner with the Manufacturing USA initiative and activities of the National Advanced Manufacturing Program Office.
The Executive Director also serves as chair and facilitator for a working group of individuals committed to achieving the goals of the NCAM mission.
Administration and Support -- Supports operations and administration of NCAM and interfacing between the NCAM Advisory Board, staff, NASA, NCAM manufacturing tenants, universities and the state of Louisiana. Also, manages equipment utilization on behalf of NCAM.
Program Execution- Coordinates the design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of the programs related to NCAM -- including research, education and outreach.
Financial and Facilities Management- Develops annual budget for Advisory Board approval and prudently manages organization's resources and finances. Recommends technology topics and responds to NASA announcements of opportunities for funding. Writes business cases to bring in new equipment.
Community and Public Relations- Assures and effectively communicates the NCAM's mission to stakeholders and the general public.
Legislative Advocacy-Serves as spokesperson and acts as liaison with public sector agencies, government officials and the business community for NCAM.
Bachelor's degree; 10 years leadership experience in aerospace, advanced materials or advanced manufacturing or related field; capable of obtaining certain national security clearances; and ability to travel.
Post-secondary degree highly desired; responsible, dependable, highly organized and ability to work well with a variety of people; strong marketing, public relations, and grant writing experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders; passion, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed; excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
This is a multi-duty station detail with primary responsibilities in Baton Rouge and in New Orleans, LA. Given the nature of the responsibilities and to attract and empower the most talented and productive candidate telework and virtual workplace flexibilities will be available.
