Instructional Technology Technician, Technology Center Operations - McDonough School of Business

Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business (MSB) - located at the intersection of business, government, and international relations - develops principled leaders committed to serving both business and society. Through our global perspective, we prepare students to compete in today's international business environment.

The Instructional Technology Technician serves as a computer and audio-visual systems technician, accomplishing the variety of tasks involved with the maintenance and administration of both classroom technology and connected desktop and laptop computers. 

Distance Learning Technologies 

  • Supports the growing MSB presence in the virtual classroom/distance learning field - to include maintaining and supporting hardware and scheduled sessions, as well as research and development of innovative and efficient technologies to support pedagogical requirements as they emerge.
  • Researches requirements and develops technologies to support distance learning technologies
  • Trains faculty and staff in the operation of distance learning technology, as well as in methods for presentation and on-camera performance.
  • Coordinates and supports individual distance learning sessions.
  • Advises the IT Operations Manager and the CTO regarding the available options for distance learning technologies.
  • Manages the various network protocols to support both distance learning and individual VTC sessions, including contracted services for ISDN and other specialized communications.     

Individual Instructional Technologies Program

  • Works with faculty and staff to evaluate, assess, and select instructional technology resources that are compatible with the Georgetown's technology infrastructure.
  • Works with faculty and staff to provide access to technical services and resources at time of need.
  • Provides faculty, staff, and students with information regarding current instructional technologies
  • Communicates with management to develop learning solutions to best meet faculty, staff, and student needs where needed.
  • Organizes instructional technologies for easy accessibility by faculty, staff, and students.
  • Manages requests for event scheduling and delivery of instructional technologies to support these events.
  • Manages and sets up all requested faculty and staff instructional presentations.
  • Manages provision of instructional technologies loaned to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Directs both human resources and video equipment resources to meet the video production needs for the MSB community.
  • Provides virtual classroom technology support for programs operating outside of Georgetown even if the University is closed. 
  • Provides technical expertise in designing physical technology for MSB's distance learning initiative.
  • Works seamlessly with contractors to execute live class and office-hours sessions.
  • Provides in-room support for all MSF Live classes and office-hours sessions.

Instruction and Evaluation

  • Forms and executes a program of instruction designed to familiarize MSB users with the capabilities and operation of all MSB AV systems.
  • Reviews instructional technology program and training courses, techniques, and materials to determine current effectiveness and applicability.
  • Maintains and improves learning materials, including custom learning materials for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Delivers functional learning to faculty and staff of MSB as it relates to instructional technologies.
  • Coordinates learning solutions provided by outside vendors.
  • Demonstrates on a regular basis the use of technology in the classroom to improve teaching and learning.
  • Provides technical assistance to faculty, staff, and students in the use of instructional software technologies.

Instructional Technology Maintenance

  • Performs diagnostic and maintenance actions on MSB systems.
  • Performs hardware and software tasks in configuring MSB Instructional Technology systems, and integrating them into the MSB NDS Tree and internet network systems.
  • Installs new network and PC systems and upgrades Instructional Technology systems, software or components - for example, desktop and laptop computers, classroom presentation, and portable AV equipment.
  • Initiate and provide follow up help call procedures to external maintenance support for those problems beyond MSB scope of capabilities.
  • Assist all MSB users in the use of all instructional technology hardware and software.

Network Maintenance and Administration

  • Assists in the design, maintenance, and administration of network systems, as they relate to networked instructional technologies
  • Performs network installations of software and hardware on both connected PCs and network servers. 
  • Performs network administration and general user account troubleshooting and repair.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains network instructional technology.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or certified equivalency - some college level credit preferred
  • 3 years of PC and Network technical experience

Preferred qualifications

  • A+ or equivalent AV or technical certification preferred
  • Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) preferred
