The George Mason University Compliance, Diversity and Ethics Office (CDE) is seeking an Equal Opportunity (EO) Specialist to assume responsibility for the universitys Affirmative Action Program and provide consultation and education to the Mason community on equal opportunity and nondiscrimination policies, procedures and options for resolution of complaints of discrimination. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Associate Director, and under general supervision, the EO Specialist has primary responsibility for the development and monitoring of the universitys Affirmative Action Plans (AAPs), to include analysis, interpretation and dissemination of AAP information for production of annual reports, diversity presentations and reports, and incidental compliance reports as requested by state and federal enforcement agencies. The EO Specialist will investigate and respond to allegations of discrimination and harassment filed by university students, staff, faculty and/or visitors in compliance with federal state laws, executive orders, and university policies and procedures; this position will collaborate with the Provosts Office, Office of the University Counsel, Office of Human Resources and Payroll, and all members of the Mason community. This work requires impartial, thorough and efficient management and resolution of complaints within specific time constraints, while ensuring attention to detail and accuracy regarding facts, relevance and investigation documentation. In this position, the incumbent will also represent CDE on various task forces, projects, boards and committees as needed.

Required Qualifications: * Completion of a masters degree program or an equivalent combination of education/training and work experience; * Demonstrated experience developing AAPs using affirmative action plan development software; * Demonstrated professional experience conducting confidential, formal investigations involving issues of alleged discrimination; * Professional work-related experience with federal and state laws and regulations regarding EO 11246, Title VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended, ADA/Section 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Title IX and other legislation relevant to this work; and, ability to interpret and explain them to university constituencies; * Experience with MS Excel advanced tools and techniques (e.g., data import, creating charts, extracting values, analyzing large data sets, filtering, and automating complex tasks with macros); * Experience developing periodic reports by collecting, compiling and analyzing employment data pertinent to equal employment opportunity; * Demonstrated ability to handle a significant caseload, manage multiple deadlines, and maintain detailed records; * Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey relevant information into persuasive written reports to employees, applicants, students and administrative agencies that clearly present a thorough analysis of the evidence presented with a conclusion that is strongly supported by the evidence; * Demonstrated ability to work successfully both independently and collaboratively; * Excellent interpersonal communication skills and problem-solving and reasoning skills, including the ability to work effectively with individuals from underrepresented groups with understanding and sensitivity to experiences of individuals from diverse backgrounds; * Excellent analytical and organizational skills; and * Ability to deal with sensitive and/or stressful situations in a professional and confidential manner.

Preferred Qualifications: * A minimum of three years of experience developing AAPs using affirmative action plan development software; * A minimum of three years of professional experience conducting confidential, formal investigations involving issues of alleged discrimination; * Experience working in a postsecondary education environment; * Experience developing higher education AAPs; * Experience developing AAPs in PeopleFluent AAPlanner; * Mediation and conflict resolution experience; * Knowledge of best practices in the recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce; and * Experience in the delivery and administration of EEO-related and diversity trainings and workshops.
