Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Editing, Film and Video Studies

The George Mason University Film and Video Studies (FAVS) program, within the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA), seeks qualified candidates for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Editing in Film and Video Studies starting January 2018 (Spring semester). Responsibilities: Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in editing practice and theory, video production, a senior capstone in editing for our students in the post-production concentration. Additional responsibilities include: * Develop new courses in motion graphics, visual effects, 360/VR filmmaking, and color correction; * Will be expected to work with FAVS technical staff and faculty to manage, design, and maintain post-production editing facilities, and to conduct necessary research in order to maintain industry standards in order to facilitate purchases and licenses; * Assist in creating opportunities and events for students on and off campus that promote the study and craft of editing within a film production program through coordination with faculty, staff, and instructors; * Service to the program will include mentoring students; and * Maintain scholarly and/or professional work and provide service to the college, university, and field beyond departmental service.

Required Qualifications: * M.F.A. in film and video production or comparable terminal degree; * At least one year of teaching experience in basic and advanced editing and digital post-production at the undergraduate college level; * Professional experience as lead editor of feature-length films, as well as short films, web series or other scripted media; and * Well-rounded with some directing experience, but with a proven track record of editing feature length films (documentary and/or fiction) and preparing films for national exhibition theatrically and online that will inform their teaching and service to the program.

Preferred Qualifications: * Applicants with experience in virtual or augmented reality, visual effects, and 360-degree post-production work are particularly encouraged to apply; and * Experience creating courses in basic and advanced video editing, graphics, editing and sound theory, and effects work.
