This is an entry-level professional position reporting to the Director, AIA Merchandising & Retail. Primary responsibilities revolve around daily store operations, including the fulfilment of in-store and online orders, maintaining point of sale system, tracking inventory and placing purchase orders. The position also requires maintaining the store website and producing online marketing materials, including a monthly email campaign.

Job Duties
All essential store operations, both in-store and at on-site events like the annual AIA Conference.


Perform daily operations duties, such as store opening and closing activities, order fulfillment, shipment tracking, cash reconciliation, preparing bank deposits, vender voucher processing and inter-departmental transactions.


Maintain stock levels and coordinate core inventory lists with attention to organization priorities, seasonal fluctuations, design trends and other variables. Help organize annual store inventory.


Assist with analyzing selling trends and researching new products; use this data to future inventory purchasing decisions.


Serve as main liaison for Point of sale system and other technical issues, coordinating with third-party software and web providers as well as with AIA tech staff.


Oversee product displays, signage and general store presentation.


Facilitate book signings and other in-store events.


Other duties as necessary, in support of the store Director.


Perform same duties at the AIA Conference, while assisting in the specific event merchandising, store/software set-up and marketing efforts, as well as temporary staff training and management.




Maintain store website and produce digital outreach materials.


Create and maintain all content in the AIA Store online using the online sales system, including product images, product copy, promotional copy, graphics, contact info and more.


Produce monthly promotional email, including written content, product image editing and HTML updates. Work with Director to generate themes, product selection and pricing specials.


Control merchandise levels between web and in-store stock, paying particular attention to seasonal fluctuations, design trends and general popularity.


Create graphic images for use in email marketing, online banner ads and in-store graphics.


Analyze effectiveness of outreach campaigns, gathering data to help store director and AIA marketing department to determine best use of marketing resources.

Strong knowledge of store retail operations, with an understanding of inventory control and point of sales systems. Excellent written and oral communications skills to best serve AIA members and the general public. Knowledge of Excel, Java, Photoshop, CSS, HTML and Dreamweaver preferred.

A bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred, with minimum of two to three years of experience in retail management and operations. Working knowledge of architecture and the arts strongly preferred.

Supervisory responsibilities

Five to ten temporary employees and AIA volunteers during the annual AIA Conference; also seasonal in-store temporary employees.
