Responsibilities: Reporting to the Associate Dean of University Life, the Associate Director provides strategic, active management of the student success initiatives for the Division of University Life. With a commitment to continuous improvement, the Associate Director collaborates closely with numerous university partners--including Admissions, Academic Affairs, Enrollment Services and University Life division colleagues--in setting the goals and outcomes for student success programs, implementing a broad spectrum of program initiatives, and conducting outcomes assessment for a comprehensive organization serving the needs of a diverse population of undergraduate students. The Associate Director develops and manages a University Life student retention plan and is responsible for contributing to overall institutional goals. As an integral member of the University Life management team, the Associate Director provides direction and support for a wide-range of division initiatives, including but not limited to: co-curricular student experience platform, early alert and intervention strategy, peer success coaching, first-year initiatives, and serves as an active ambassador of the George Mason University community. Anticipated start date is Summer 2017.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for this position must have a masters degree in higher education, student personnel, counseling or a related field; as well as progressively responsible professional experience, and leadership experience working closely with undergraduates student populations. Experience with supervision, assessment/evaluation, training and development, leadership and student involvement programs is necessary. Candidates must have a strong working knowledge of student development and the ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds. Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours, particularly in the summer, is a position requirement.
Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of four years of progressively responsible professional experience; an earned doctorate in higher education, student affairs administration, or other applicable discipline; and demonstrated commitment to the practice of open and effective communication with students, faculty and staff to build and maintain collaborative relationships.
