Assistant Director of Development, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center - Office of Advancement

Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) clinicians are dedicated to providing the best professional care, delivered with compassion, for all patients. Lombardi's internationally-renowned physicians treat virtually every type of cancer, including breast, lung, colorectal, prostate, head and neck, and cancers of the blood. Along with cutting-edge cancer care, we offer a program of innovative clinical trials and a full range of supportive care services to improve our patients' health and quality of life.

The Assistant Director of Development raises major gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations for approved programmatic and facility priorities in support of Georgetown Lombardi. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Serves as major gift officer for approximately 75 - 125 prospects rated at $50K - $1M in order to raise $1-$3M in gifts annually. 
  • On a quarterly basis, submits 5-15 proposals ($50K+), closes 5-7 gifts ($50K+), makes 40-50 face-to-face visits, and makes 20-30 substantive moves. 
  • Develops and implements marketing and fundraising plans and manages events for assigned priorities. 
  • Helps recruit, train and coordinate the activities of volunteer leaders. 
  • Solicits volunteers as appropriate and provides “assists” to colleagues in order to strengthen internal collaboration. 
  • Assists in supervising support staff; participates in setting performance expectations, coaching, and provides feedback to support staff on an ongoing basis. 
  • Exchanges basic information and normally requires ordinary courtesy and effectiveness in informing others; exchanges and interprets information requiring understanding to influence others; and exchanges, analyzes, and interprets information requiring various approaches to influence others.
  • Supervises entry of “substantive move” data, verifying accuracy of gift reports to ensure quality and accuracy of reports.
  • Operates within budgetary guidelines for assigned activities - and if applicable, manages travel budget or program budgets as assigned.
  • Implements communications strategies and develops project-based case statements.
  • Manages assigned events.
  • Staffs assigned academic leaders and writes briefings and talking points.  Handles miscellaneous administrative responsibilities.


  • Bachelor's degree - background in science or experience working in a medical center strongly preferred
  • 3 - 5 years of progressively responsible development experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
