Summary: Responsible for supervising classroom staff and overseeing a caseload of six to eight students. This position entails classroom management and coordination, curriculum development and implementation, skill assessment and progress monitoring, and development of Individualized Education Plans.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

 

Oversee daily operations of classroom staff and students Develop and supervise the implementation of each student’s curriculum, including the goals in the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) and priority skills selected from the Autism Programs’ courses of study Develop and supervise classroom and individual student schedules Write each student’s IEP and report quarterly on student progress Conduct student skills assessment Provide assessment information on functions of behavior and suggestions for treatment Provide direct implementation and evaluation of skill acquisition and behavior reduction programming Develop, lead, and manage classroom activities such as vocational work groups, social skills club, yoga classes, and money management workshops, in collaboration with the Curriculum Resource Team as appropriate Actively problem-solve programs, activities, and lessons in which change is not going in the desired direction and make necessary changes to ensure student success • Ensure data collection and monitoring is appropriate to determine student progress Monitor student materials to ensure that they are adequate and appropriate Conduct initial and on-going staff training Supervise and manage classroom staff Develop annual calendar to manage required activities throughout the year (e.g., Program Reviews, Documentation Reviews, Alternate Assessment, IEP development) Communicate with parents and caregivers Coordinate and participate in parent meetings Assist and/or implement daily hygiene and toileting programs for students Conduct state required assessments Professional Development and Training

 

Maintain certification as a Special Education Teacher with MSDE Complete annual performance review and professional development with supervisor Participate in annual crisis management training Seek resources necessary to stay current with the research/trends in the fields of Special Education and ABA Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification Complete other professional development and/or training as assigned by supervisor Physical Requirements

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to:

  • Bend, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects Change positions frequently from sitting to standing to walking Operate typical office equipment Lift and carry up to 50 pounds Effectively implement crisis management procedures
