GDIT is seeking a Research Technician II to support WRAIR's Entomology Branch with an emphasis on the development of molecular identification assays that allow non-scientist soldiers to obtain quick identifications in austere environments.


The contractor shall be expected to:

  1. Plan and resource identification services related to the identification of militarily relevant arthropod vectors.
  2. Develop, validate and implement molecular assays for the detection and identification of cryptic species utilizing DNA sequencing techniques to build identification assays using multiple platforms.
  3. Develop standard operating procedures to formalize testing procedures using these assays so that multiple testing entities may produce comparable data suitable for use in surveillance programs.
  4. Develop, validate and utilize traditional taxonomic keys to identify vector species.
  5. Provide vector identification support services for DoD costumers and research collaborators upon request.


Education BS in a biological science with knowledge of developing and conducting experiments involving high complexity assays.

Qualifications 1) 2-5 years of related experience in scientific research, analysis and/or engineering.

2) Ability to develop, validate, and implement molecular assays using DNA sequence techniques across multiple platforms, along with standard operating procedures suitable for distribution among multiple testing entities.

3) Ability to develop, validate, and use traditional taxonomic keys to identify vector species.
