The National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and National Academy of Medicine work together as the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to provide independent, objective analysis and advice to the nation and conduct other activities to solve complex problems and inform public policy decisions. The National Academies also encourage education and research, recognize outstanding contributions to knowledge, and increase public understanding in matters of science, engineering, and medicine.

 

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is one of seven major programs of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The mission of the Transportation Research Board is to increase the benefits that transportation contributes to society by providing leadership in transportation innovation and progress through research and information exchange, conducted within a setting that is objective, interdisciplinary, and multimodal.

 

The Cooperative Research Programs Division (CRP) of the TRB administers a number of major research programs sponsored by other organizations.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Under immediate direction, the High School Intern performs a variety of tasks that focus on providing learning opportunities and exposure to a wide range of activities.  Duties may range from special projects directed toward particular objectives or duties typical of the organization that supplement existing department operations such as quick response task of inventorying, storing and discarding old research reports.

 

Duties may also include:

 

1. Performing administrative tasks such as copying, filing, compiling and coordinating mailings, and creating, maintaining, and updating records, databases, and files

 

2. Assisting with preparations for meetings, 

 

3. Other related duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to follow directions.  Good interpersonal skills with an ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees.
