The Brookings Institution Equal Opportunity Employer It is Brookings policy to provide equal employment opportunity for all of its employees and applicants without regard to their actual or perceived race color religion sex age disability national origin ancestry sexual orientation marital status personal appearance citizenship status family responsibilities gender identity or expression genetic information matriculation political affiliation veteran status or any other prohibited basis of discrimination as required by law Program Office of Financial Services Job Funtion Accounting Finance Posted Date Job ID Salary Commensurate with experience Overview The Investment Associate monitors and researches existing and prospective external money managers who are hired to invest portions of the Brookingsa diversified endowment portfolio The Associate contributes to the investment research and decision making process The role also shares in portfolio reporting and operational oversight responsibilities with other team members Travel domestically and internationally to attend and or conduct due diligence meetings conferences and attend investment committee meetings Responsibilities Existing Manager Monitoring Maintain notes and update data records regarding the investment and operational activities of the existing external money managers Attend and or conduct due diligence meetings in person or via phone including off site In coordination with colleagues prepare questions and objectives in advance Record factual notes and or write up qualitative assessments after Contribute to draft and or write formal manager evaluation memos Prospective Manager Due Diligence Contribute to and generate new manager ideas This involves developing and maintaining relationships with peers and marketers receive requests for meetings and responding appropriately reviewing presentation materials and or PPMs and otherwise screening prospective managers for further research Conduct further due diligence collect and construct data into useful records analyze portfolio and organization plan conduct and assess results of meetings in collaboration with other team members Define appropriate benchmarks and peer universes Compare and contrast managersa organizations and investment strategies including strengths and weaknesses Contribute to draft and write new manager recommendation memos General Market Research Portfolio Strategy Monitor and maintain regular data sets and graphs for internal office and Investment Committee use Redevelop monitoring processes to optimize useful information flow Oversee preparation of regular performance and ad hoc analyses by the outside consultant In collaboration with colleagues discover define and evaluate new investment opportunities and their usefulness to the portfolio Compare and contrast investment opportunities Contribute to draft and write memos to explain and justify recommendations to add new strategies to the portfolio Attend Investment Committee meetings Record notes into file after General Investment Office Operations Prepare the quarterly unitization and annual draw calculations Provide backup in the absence of the CIO and the other investment associate as needed Provide backup in tracking the current portfolio asset value and allocation Provide backup in approving capital calls and withdrawals Provide backup in receiving and processing stock gifts Perform any and all other duties and responsibilities of a similar nature and character those above which may be assigned and or directed Qualifications Education Experience Requirements Bachelora s degree with a minimum of three years general financial experience required Experience in investment management and specific experience with bottom up portfolio evaluation top down quantitative performance analysis and a broad universe of investment managers strongly preferred Demonstrated knowledge and interest in any of these areas is required Holders of level Chartered Financial Analysts CFA designation required Completed CFA designation preferred Knowledge Skills Requirements Excellent written and oral communication skills Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and quantitative skills Ability to represent the institution appropriately with outside investment and financial management personnel Ability to travel both domestically and internationally of the time each year Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Familiarity with FactSet Bloomberg or any investment research programs is preferred Additional Information Brookings requires that all applicants submit a resume and cover letter Please attach your cover letter and resume as one document when you apply Successful completion of a background investigation is required for employment at Brookings PI
