Job Title: Engineering Intern Shift: 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM Department: Engineering Reports To: Director of Engineering Location: Baltimore Office Prepared Date: 12/12/2016 SUMMARY: To provide technical/design engineering services to the FreeState family of companies on design-build projects and other projects of a highly technical nature across many sectors, including Industrial, Commercial, Residential, Government and energy. This position will work under the direct management of senior electrical engineers and/or the Director of Engineering. The candidate must be detail oriented and must be able to work productively as part of a team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties as assigned): Assist in executing detailed design under the direction and close supervision of Senior Engineers, including the design or integration of the following: Normal power distribution systems Emergency power generation and distribution systems Coordinated device location with mechanical, plumbing, or other consultants (Office, warehouse, Kitchen, etc) Lighting layouts, including calculating lighting levels Project specifications for all equipment and installation methods Perform analysis of electrical distribution systems, including short circuit, overcurrent device coordination, and arc flash studies. Documentation of design work - AutoCAD and REVIT capabilities are strongly preferred. Validate and / or document existing field conditions. Perform tasks within agreed upon deadlines and budget. Keep senior staff informed of important and relevant service/design decisions. Coordinating his/her work with other members of the project team. Inform all relevant FreeState Electric staff of client matters. Commitment to self learning and professional development. Assist Estimating department with take-offs. SUPERVISORY: None required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: In the process or earning a Bachelor's degree, preferably Electrical Engineering. A basic understanding of electrical engineering and the construction industry is preferred. Ability to read and interpret construction documents is preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical specifications, and / or governmental regulations. Ability to present and respond to basic electrical design questions from managers, clients, and customers. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations as it applies to the projects. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of complex variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Microsoft office, AutoCAD, REVIT, Visio, Blue Beam/Adobe and ETAP knowledge is preferred; computer experience is required.
