OVERVIEW: The King Abdullah Academy seeks an experienced, highly-qualified, visionary educator to fill the role of Teacher. BACKGROUND: King Abdullah Academy (KAA) is a new, state-of-the-art international PK-12 STEM school in suburban Virginia, just 25 miles outside Washington, DC King Abdullah Academy is designed to accommodate a student population of 1,200 students though it is anticipated to initially open in SY 2016-2017 with an enrollment of approximately 600 students in grades K-12. Planning for a successful and energetic start to the King Abdullah Academy is currently being led by Founding Executive Principal, Mr. Chris Faisandier. Under his leadership, work is currently underway to design IB / e-STEM-a / ESL-ASL curricula and a cohesive school model that place the learner at the center of his or her own learning. King Abdullah Academy's entrepreneurship, STEM, and arts ("e-STEM-a"), International Baccalaureate (IB) and Second Language Learning (ESL/ASL) curricula provide multiple pathways for students to acquire the skills, knowledge, and habits of mind that are required for success in our global, multi-cultural, hyper-connected world. ROLE DESCRIPTION: The Teacher will lead the planning and implementation of a cohesive and coordinated strategy that harnesses every available resource to optimize student learning and the quality of the student experience at King Abdullah Academy within the learning community. An ideal candidate will have extensive classroom experience in a PK-12 school setting, a keen interest in forwarding innovative teaching strategies that align with the vision for the school, and will have a passion for the unique mission of the King Abdullah Academy. LOCATION: 325,000 square foot state-of-the-art Pre-K through Grade 12 private school located on a 40-acre master-planned campus in Herndon, Virginia. REPORTING TO: Learning Community Coordinator REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address organizational needs and changing industry practices.Set clear goals and procedures for operations, programs and practices that ensure seamless integration of assets and services in classrooms and maximizes resource impact on student outcomes.Work with Academic Team leadership ensure that curriculum and classroom teaching and learning and resources are positively connected.Develop lesson plans and delivering group an individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines.Promote and communicate programs and initiatives ensuring high levels of participation amongst students.Create a classroom environment conducive to students developing a love of learning for enjoyment.Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and to improve student achievement.Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course study.Prepares a variety of written materials for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements. QUALIFICATIONS:B.A/B. S degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field teachingState of Virginia certification in teaching in appropriate subject area.Meet professional teacher education requirements of school and state.Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations is essential.Deep belief in and passion for the mission, vision, and values of King Abdullah Academy is essentialProfessional and personal integrity are essential.Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
