Position SummaryThe Associate General Counsel assists the General Counsel in providing legal advice to the MFA; prepares and reviews a variety of legal documents; manages various legal and litigation matters; and acts as a liaison with outside counsel. The Associate General Counsel advises the General Counsel, senior leadership and internal clients on various legal aspects of the Corporation concerning labor/employment and litigation matters. The Associate General Counsel should have at least five (5) years' employment law experience, law firm experience litigation experience and health law experience.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.* Provides legal review and/or advice to MFA on varied legal matters, including labor and employment law and litigation management.* Provides in-house legal counsel on labor and employment related matters, which may include, but not limited to, human resources issues, wage and hour law, workers' compensation, unemployment and other state agency claims, labor relations, employee benefits, employment agreements and policy related issues, FMLA matters, employment related litigation, grievances and arbitrations and generally assists the General Counsel, Labor Relations and Human Resources Department.* Works closely with outside litigation management partner.* Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies.* Participates in and influences the decision-making process with appropriate clients and stakeholders.* Identifies and assesses legal risks and opportunities within the labor and employment area and advises accordingly.* Independently handles legal matters and projects ranging from basic to complex.* Recognizes when to elevate certain matters to the attention of the General Counsel.* Supervises, manages and evaluates outside counsel on employment related matters including litigation.* Educates clients and stakeholders on legal matters, policies and procedures.* Establishes and maintains relationships, credibility and trust with clients, stakeholders, legal team members and other colleagues.* Assists with the development of model legal documents.* Keeps abreast of changes in legal requirements and ensures compliance.* Develops, participates in and conducts corporate and system-wide education on various topics of current legal interest.* Executes other legal duties as assigned by the General CounselRequirementsQualificationsThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Education* A law degree from an accredited institution; license to practice in the District of Columbia or eligibility to waive into the District of Columbia is required.* At least five (5) years' experience in labor and employment.* Litigation and health care law experience within a large law firm, corporate or health care law department, or other legal setting is preferred.* Knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations is preferred.Experience* Experience in drafting and negotiating contractual arrangements.* Experience working in the health care field, especially with exposure to not-for-profit institutions.* Experience with defending lawsuits and interacting with insurance companies* Experience with investigating claims and incidents and managing risk.* Experience working in a demanding corporate environment with access to highly confidential and proprietary information.* Experience with labor/employment law.* Strong communication, organizational, planning, problem solving, technology, analytical, judgment, research, and multi-tasking skills.Competencies* Competence as a lawyer; ability to manage heavy workload in a high-pressure environment.* Good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills within and across departments and externally; must be proactive in providing counsel to clients and be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people at various levels within and outside the Medical Faculty Associates (MFA).* Sound judgment; ability to clearly make reasoned recommendations; ability to cross think and determine who should be kept informed.* Self-starter with good business sense and a sense of urgency, honesty and fairness.Apply On-lineSend This Job to a FriendCopyright ? var d = new Date(); document.write(d.getFullYear()); Ultimate SoftwarePosted by StartWire.
