This position is responsible for the technical architecture, design and development of software, database systems, and integration of third party applications. In addition, this role will include participation in the strategic planning around future development/integration efforts.OrganizationThis position reports to the Director Business Systems and interacts within the IT Group, with Business stakeholders and with third party service providers and vendors.Duties and Responsibilities* Follow the company development methodology (SDLC) and project lifecycle to understand requirements, plan software and database systems, author code, test code and deploy applications and reporting packages consistent with change control procedures* Lead and document the architecture and technical design of systems based on requirements gathered in the project lifecycle* Author and maintain code using the Microsoft.NET, SSIS/Informatica and advanced SQL utilizing MS SQL Server* Design and document solutions and delegate coding tasks to offshore consultants* Work with business units and business analysts to gather requirements and create a product vision and technical architecture* Ensure alignment of business applications with company goals and strategies, managing performance to objectives* Perform routine unit, quality assurance, regression and load tests to validate the readiness of internally and externally developed code for production* Utilize source code control software such as TFS & GitHub to store and manage code versions* Assist in the design and development of relational database models* Review the code and application designs produced by offshore and on-shore consultants and provide instruction and guidance to ensure work is completed to the company standards of quality and performance* Conduct code security reviews* Provide technical guidance within the solution delivery area and enforce standards for system architecture, code quality and collaborative team development* Participate in buy vs. build analysis* Integrate and monitor COTS packages and troubleshoot issues as they arise* Coordinate with COTS vendors and users for changes, enhancements and fixes* Ensure that proposed designs meet security and compliance guidelines* Serve as a backup for quantitative developer position* Attend conferences, developer forums and training opportunities to ensure current technology trends are understood and applied within the company environmentExperience and Education Requirements* Bachelor's degree required* Minimum of 5 years' experience in designing and building applications and interfaces using the Microsoft development platform* Experience using various SDLC methodologies (Agile/SCRUM, Waterfall, RAD, etc.)* Experience with the following technologies: C#, .NET, ASP.NET and ASP.NET, SQL Server, T-SQL and stored procedures, SSIS, SSRS, Team Foundation Server (TFS), GitHub* Relational database design expertise* Experience building investment solutions, or tools of marketable quality (Bloomberg, SQL based reporting systems)* Proficient knowledge of software used for investment analysis, portfolio management, and reporting such as Microsoft Office (with an emphasis on Excel and Access), Bloomberg, as well as other financial and statistical software packages* Experience with end-user reporting tools such as Tableau and MS Power BI is highly desirable* Hands-on experience with cloud environments such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure is a plus* Matlab or similar modeling tool experience is highly desirable* Experience supporting production batch jobs is a plus* Insurance Industry or Financial Services experience, especially in the Investments domain is highly desirableSkills and Abilities* Highly motivated, self-starter and team player with a high energy level and willingness to take on responsibility* Strong communication (verbal, written and presentation), organizational and analytical skills* Ability to work in a dynamic environment* Excellent negotiation skills* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in team-based development projects required* Strong technical documentation ability required* Knowledge of SDLC methodologies (Agile/SCRUM, Waterfall, RAD, etc.)* Ability to develop good relationships with COTS and service vendors* Strong knowledge of MS.NET Framework, web and database concepts* Consultative and client oriented, a creative problem solver with a collaborative naturePhysical Demands and Work Environment* Must be able to work in a fast-pace team environment and handle multiple projects and assignments under tight deadlines* Availability to work flexible hours or travel as needed to accommodate business needs and deliverablesPosted by StartWire.
