Senior Museum Desktop Support Technician

What experience you need: Five years plus (5+) of real world desktop systems support, preferably in an enterprise environment, and recent and relevant experience in Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10 computers/tablets. You should also have:High energy and motivation to be fully engagedTremendous attention to detailExcellent problem-resolution skillsAbility to weigh a number of options and provide the most efficient solutionOUTSTANDING oral (in person/phone) and written communication skills, including an ability to deal with people at various levels, from technician- to executiveStrong ability to build client relationships Thorough working knowledge of using products in the following areas:Windows 7, 8.x,10 OSes - including device and driver installation, troubleshooting and patchingWindows MDT deploymentsWindows Easy Transfer Migration WizardSCCM Remote Viewer/Remote Desktop/DamewareBasic hardware including Dell (and other brand) computing platforms, CPUs, RAM, Hard drives, CD burners, local- and network-attached-printers, scanners, etc.Basic local and network connectivity including troubleshooting TCP/IP, DHCP, NICs, DNS, USB, FireWire, network drive mappings, etc.Mobile devices (eg, iPhone, iPad, Android platforms) and associated desktop management and synchronization softwareOffice 2010/2013, especially Outlook, Word and ExcelBrowsers to include IE, Safari, Firefox and ChromeMcAfee, various anti-spyware utilitiesHEAT Service Desk Management System Museum requirements also dictate requiring experience with the following:Video conferencing solutions, public address systems, public PC kiosks, and media players/video projectors/large-format televisionsAudio-visual conference room equipmentPublic kiosk configuration, troubleshooting and repairDigital cameras, scanners, and audio recording equipmentAdvanced Active Directory network object and file system administration, including managing group policies Desirable training/certifications you should have:BS DegreeA+/Net+MCTS in Windows 7 Configuration What you will do You will provide remote- and on-site desktop, laptop and mobile (eg, iPhone/iPad) support for users in a dynamic government environment. This will include troubleshooting incidents and problems as well as handling requests for services, eg, installations, configurations, moves, migrations, upgrades. As a senior resource, you will be expected to take on the most difficult/complex assignments. These requests may come in person, via email, or via phone. Work will also include the following:Event support, including: IT/AV support for internal and external meetings, including setup, installation, and/or configuration of Video Conference Equipment, projectors, speakers, podiums/microphones, and cameras; PowerPoint/Prezi presentations with presenter's remote and cordless keyboards and cordless mice; temporary Wi-Fi WAPs; setup of interactive/augmented reality simulators and public kiosk systems; setup and support of large screen TV's and/or projection on to large walls or screens; laptop setup for lecturesCoordinating with various vendors for system or event installationsConfiguring, maintaining, supporting and remediating:A computerized public address systemNetwork devices/printers and other equipmentPublic kiosk hardware (touch screens and PC hardware)Digital Video Recorders/Players and associated large screen monitorsAdvanced troubleshooting of Windows desktop environments and their interactions with the computing and networking infrastructure at the SmithsonianAnalysis and configuration of system or application software productsConducting demonstrations and training (both formal and through mentoring), new user orientation, and providing documentation for newly installed hardware/softwareNetwork administration, including creation of network accounts using established procedures; establishing and maintaining network file shares and access control; maintaining group policiesExecuting project work such as:Facility movesKiosk workstation configuration and hardeningIntegration of various network-connected components, eg, high-end data acquisition devices, media servers, digital signage, etc.Supporting digitization effortsProviding advanced technical documentation such as SOPs and work completed reportsCompleting other duties as assigned Clearance Requirements Ability to pass a corporate and Federal background check. Previous Federal Agency check (or higher) clearance preferred. Other Weekend and after-hours work may be required by special arrangement.
