Job Summary: Network Architect will play a vital role in implementing and refining the current technology road-map to modernize the legacy infrastructure. The architect will be responsible for the overall technical design of the solution on projects, where new technology or critical architectural changes are introduced. The architect will collaborate with business analysts, project manager, quality analysts, development team and everyone who plays a critical role in the execution of the project. This is a highly technical role with a strong client-facing focus, providing the leadership and technical competence to deliver excellent client solutions that adhere to defined standards. Exceptional knowledge of software development practices will be required in order to insure the optimal solution is designed and that the developers work to the highest quality. Principle Responsibilities: ARCHITECTURE ANALYSIS AND VALIDATION SUPPORT Network Architect shall conduct architecture analysis and validation reviews of cross-domain capacity aspects of specific new and existing Veteran Affairs applications and systems. Each review shall consist of the development of the deliverable and the architecture analysis and validation of the assigned applications and systems. Network Architect shall develop a review plan utilizing the government supplied project requirement documents, System Design Documents, non-functional requirements and other related documents necessary to conduct the analysis of the assigned systems and applications. The review plan shall include goals, techniques to be utilized, tools to be used and the resulting reports that will be delivered. The Network Architect shall perform an architecture analysis and validation based on the government approved review plan. An analytical approach using ITIL standards shall be utilized and the non-functional requirements shall be reviewed. The Network Engineer shall document the non-functional requirements, identifying any lack of non-functional requirements based on best practices and industry standards. Significant design flaws that affect the ability of the system to meet performance or capacity requirements must be identified along with messaging approaches and middleware capabilities. The analysis and validation shall fully document the rationale, industry best-practices and alignment to solution requirements used by the Network Architect to arrive at a conclusion. The NA shall develop and submit the following: Architecture Analysis and Validation Plan (the Plan). The Plan shall include Identification of the objectives of the review, supplied by the government. Description of the system under review. Description of the method(s) that will be used to analyze the system or application Description of resource(s) required to complete the review Description of any technical reports that will be provided CAPACITY PLANNING AND PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS SUPPORT The purpose of the capacity planning and performance analysis is to identify potential major system capacity performance issues in the system design and implementation plan. The Network Architect will be provided with application / system documentation such as Requirements Specification and System Design documents. Using the provided documentation, the Network Architect shall provide capacity, performance and engineering analysis of the infrastructure, application, or system design based on the documented and provided requirements. Missing or deficient performance and capacity requirements shall be identified. High availability and deployment scenarios must be considered where they are provided. Capacity planning tool recommendation should be made to support the life cycle of the system or application. The Capacity Planning and Performance Analysis Report for each engagement shall contain:The estimated impact that the system or application under analysis will have on existing infrastructure and systems in terms of the following:life cycle costexisting processesinteroperabilityother characteristicsvirtualization technologiesplatformapplicationdatabasenetwork technology domainscloud/managed servicescollaboration toolsdata usageCapacity analysis to show whether the system or application capacity meets business requirements in a cost effective manner. Our ideal Candidate: Veteran Affairs Experience is a plus. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a directly related field. 6 to 10 years of professional IT experience. Experience with application architecture and solution development Excellent knowledge and understanding of object oriented design techniques. Knowledge of several standard software development methodologies Familiarity with mainframe technologies. Comprehensive understanding of the application development process (requirements gathering, programming, testing, compliance) and in-depth understanding of database, network, and system performance configuration and tuning. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Excellent presentation skills and should be comfortable working with senior leaders.
