NCI: As the Senior Network Engineer - Wide Area Network (WAN) ( Network Engineer V ), you will be responsible for managing the business's Enterprise WAN infrastructure, including configuring and managing firewalls, WAN optimizers, encryption services eg, VPN, monitoring and trouble-shooting. You will be responsible for evaluating, recommending, installing, configuring and supporting wide area network components (WAN), including all hardware and software. You also may assign work for others, maintain personnel scheduling, and provide some 3rd level support. In assuming this position, you will be a critical contributor to meeting NCI's mission: To deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions and services that enable our customers to rapidly adapt to dynamic environments. Highlights of Responsibilities: Manage the business's enterprise WAN components (eg, circuits, firewall, routers, VPN) and network infrastructure. Setup, configure, manage and document all WAN connectivity between sites to include router configuration/ maintenance, coordination with Communication Company/ISPs for installs and turn-ups, DNS administration, TCP/IP configuration, protocols, VPN and encryption, firewall configuration/ maintenance, ports, monitoring and network security. Provide enterprise level networking solutions: Architect, develop hardware specifications, coordination of HW/SW vendors and pricing, project plans and scheduling, configure and implementation of network solutions. Evaluate system resources, make recommendations for procurement where necessary. Communicate with users regarding scheduled repairs, installations, and changes to company hardware and software. Implement and manage major IT WAN initiatives. Coordinate third party maintenance for network HW and SW and troubleshoot network problems. Provide 3rd Tier support for Sr Engineers and regional site Network Administrators for complex issues resulting from IT systems including internal and remote users and vendor support. Manage network performance to maintain high quality transmission service on the network. Perform software updates on networking components. Provide detailed network and enterprise documentation Enforce security procedures and assists with maintenance of disaster recovery plans. Lead the IT Team on client security audit efforts relating to Networking and WAN. Purchase and receive hardware and software adhering to departmental budget constraints. Track and maintain licensing agreements. Maintain inventory for WAN and networking hardware and software. Implement and coordinate network policies, procedures, and standards. Provide overall guidance and mentoring to Engineers and Users when required. Provide occasional weekend and evening coverage as needed. Requirements: At least 5-7+ years of related experience Expert knowledge of firewalls (Juniper) and network security/privacy issues. Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, WINS, DNS, FTP, CISCO Routers, Juniper firewalls and switched networks. Expert knowledge of current internal and external networking protocols and equipment, data communication/encryption techniques and methodologies, operating systems, network design and security, and monitoring/management tools. Expert knowledge of Windows Server (all current versions) Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites.
