Backup Storage Engineer

The SEC ISS program is a comprehensive IT program charged with operating, managing, and advancing the SEC's IT infrastructure. Our dynamic program team of IT leaders and large and small business partners is seeking bright, energetic and talented individuals to join us as we bring our innovative IT Service Delivery solutions to SEC.Defines, designs and develops system requirements for backup storage. Performs trade-off analysis of performance, life-cycle cost, risk, producibility, and other system or program requirements. Assesses architecture and current hardware limitations, defines and designs system specifications, and evaluates input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system. Defines system support requirements to include monitoring, capacity, staffing and patching/updating. Analyzes and resolves program support deficiencies. Conducts independent technical investigations in systems design. Evaluates vendor capabilities using processes similar to DAR to provide required products or services.Responsibilities:Manages customer and stakeholder needs, generates and develops requirements, and performs functional analysis.; Acts as a mentor to junior team members.; Collects, analyzes, tracks, and reports program metrics.; Identifies program objectives and technical development strategy; prepares System Engineering Management Plan, Work Breakdown Structures, master schedules, and key performance parameters.; Develops and implements risk and opportunity management plans, identifies risks, assesses risks, develops mitigation plans, and tracks risks.Responsible for the administering, configuring, and deploying all backup and recovery solutions for the SAN. Designs backup solution and ensures backups are completed as scheduled. Manages all backup and recovery tools and systems. Assists in the deployment of backup strategies for all infrastructure components.Qualifications:Required Education:Bachelors; Desired Education:MastersMust have a minimum of 8 years of experience providing enterprise backup and recovery solutions for a storage are network. Must have experience working with multiple vendor solutions, such as Symantec NetBackup, Veritas Storage Foundation, and CommVault Simpana.
