Controller - Real Estate
A dynamic, hospitality focused, multi-family real estate company based in Alexandria, VA is seeking a Controller. The organization has over 5000 units and growing and more than 200 employees, with a portfolio of unique apartment homes across 4 states and 24 properties. The primary focus of Controller is to own the day to day operations of the corporate accounting/finance functions, investor statements and distributions, including corporate and property level accounting, financial reporting, quarterly review processes, and the annual audit and tax compliance processes to ensure that the books and records of the company are kept in strict accordance with current GAAP. The Controller will be the top Finance Executive in the organization and will be a key business partner to both the Executive Team, field operations and Ownership in setting up accounting systems and processes, as well as ensuring accurate and timely reporting and the highest standards of financial management throughout the organization. While having responsibility for strategy of the function and leadership of the team, this is a hands on position that will require the individual to perform routine tasks. The desired candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting, an advanced degree is preferred as well as the equivalent level qualifications and experience. S/he will have a strong accounting background from real estate industries and possess the leadership qualities, personality and fit for the organization. The individual should be well organized, computer literate, and detail-oriented as well as adept at managing multiple projects at the same time. The right individual should be a go-getter, highly self-motivated, goal-oriented, competitive, and a results-driven professional. A 'can-do' attitude is required and the individual should be willing to travel as per request. The successful candidate will be able to find quick and efficient solutions to any operating issues that arise and implement these best practices throughout the company. H/She should be able to create a balanced scorecard program for all systems and associates so that the company can measure performance in every respect. Most importantly, we need a strong leader with a strategic mindset, who is willing to make a long term commitment to the company. Base salary and incentives will be commensurate with experience.
